His Mom Was “Horrified” He Was Going on a Reality Dating Show—But It Wasn’t for ‘Love Is Blind’

The second season of Love Is Blind UK swept onto Netflix with all the drama, tears, and romance fans crave from the hit reality show. The season, which wrapped up on August 31 with a jaw-dropping reunion episode, left viewers buzzing as only one couple emerged from the experiment still happily married. Among the chaos of breakups and betrayals, gamer Kieran Holmes-Darby and dancer Megan Jupp stood out as a beacon of love, captivating audiences with their seamless connection and undeniable chemistry.

From the moment they met in the pods, Kieran and Megan’s bond was electric. Their journey from pod conversations to a heartfelt engagement was remarkably smooth, earning them a special place in viewers’ hearts. By the time they said “I do” at the altar, their love seemed unshakable. During the reunion, hosted by Matt and Emma Willis, the couple shared that they were still blissfully married and excited for their future, later taking to social media to celebrate their journey with a heartfelt “finally.”

But behind their fairy-tale romance lies a surprising twist: Kieran almost never made it onto Love Is Blind UK. In a candid interview on the We Need To Talk Podcast with matchmaker Paul C. Brunson, Kieran revealed that his path to finding love on the show was nearly derailed by an earlier casting for another iconic dating show—Love Island.

Freshly single after a long-term relationship, Kieran found himself on a date that changed the course of his reality TV journey. “I was on a first date, and the girl I was with said, ‘You’d be really good on Love Island,’” Kieran recounted to Brunson. “I wasn’t sure how to take that as a comment on a first date, but it planted a seed.” That night, after a few drinks, he impulsively applied for the ITV dating show.

To his surprise, Kieran sailed through the eight-month casting process for Love Island and was selected as a “bombshell”—a latecomer designed to shake up the villa’s dynamics. “I signed the contract with ITV, and I was cast,” he shared. But not everyone was thrilled about his decision. “My mum was horrified,” Kieran admitted with a laugh. “She was like, ‘This is not a show for you, Kieran. That’s not you.’ A lot of my family shared the same sentiment, though some friends thought it was hilarious and egged me on.”

Despite being locked in for Love Island, Kieran never made it to the villa. “I didn’t even get to the holding villa,” he explained. “They were calling me every three days, asking who I was interested in on the show, and I guess my answers didn’t quite line up with what they needed for the bombshell role.” Ultimately, he was left out of the final lineup.

Fate, however, had other plans. Shortly after his Love Island dreams fizzled, Kieran received an unexpected call inviting him to join the cast of Love Is Blind UK for its second season. “They said there was one more slot for a man on the show,” he recalled. Initially hesitant, Kieran wasn’t sure he was ready for the intense social experiment or the idea of finding “the one.” “I never thought I’d get married or meet someone like Megan,” he confessed.

But as fans now know, Kieran’s leap of faith paid off. His connection with Megan proved to be the real deal, transforming him from a skeptical singleton to a happily married man. Their story, born in the pods and sealed at the altar, serves as a reminder that sometimes the best love stories come from the most unexpected detours—even if it means dodging a Love Island bombshell moment to find true love on Love Is Blind.
