Eagles Flip the Switch: Activate Darius Cooper in Move That Could Save Their Season.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a pivotal roster move on Saturday, activating wide receiver Darius Cooper from Injured Reserve to their 53-man active roster, just in time for their highly anticipated Kelly Green game against the New York Giants on Sunday. Cooper, who opened his practice window on Thursday, impressed the coaching staff enough in just two practices to earn his spot back on the active roster, filling an open slot as the team navigates a critical juncture in their season.

Cooper, a rookie free agent signed after the 2025 NFL Draft, brings a spark to an Eagles receiving corps that will be without star A.J. Brown due to a hamstring injury for Sunday’s matchup. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound wideout from Tarleton State expressed his excitement about returning to the field, saying, “It was a blessing to be back out there, practicing with my brothers, man. That was just the main thing I was looking forward to, being out there with the team. It was a blessing to be out there.” Cooper emphasized his readiness to take on any role the coaching staff assigns, showcasing the versatility and team-first mentality that earned him a roster spot out of Training Camp.

A standout at Tarleton State, Cooper left the program as its all-time leader in receiving yards (3,185) and 100-yard games (14), while ranking second in touchdown receptions with 29. His collegiate production translated to early opportunities with the Eagles, as he played 20 offensive snaps across the first three games of the season before landing on Injured Reserve. Now fully activated, Cooper joins Jahan Dotson, DeVonta Smith, John Metchie, and Xavier Gipson as the Eagles’ available wide receivers against the Giants, providing much-needed depth at a critical position.

The Eagles’ roster maneuvering didn’t stop with Cooper. On Tuesday, the team signed defensive end Brandon Graham, a move bolstered by a two-game roster exemption granted by Commissioner Roger Goodell, set to expire on Monday, November 3. Graham’s return adds veteran leadership and pass-rushing prowess to a defense preparing for a divisional showdown.

As the Eagles gear up for their first Kelly Green game of the season, the activation of Cooper could prove to be a season-altering decision. With Brown sidelined, Cooper’s ability to step up—whether as a reliable target or a dynamic playmaker—could provide the offensive boost Philadelphia needs to keep pace in the competitive NFC East. Fans will also get a glimpse of Brandon Graham’s return to the field, adding to the excitement surrounding this crucial matchup against the Giants.
