Bombshell Proposal: Eagles Make Blockbuster Move for Lockdown CB at Deadline

With the NFL trade deadline looming in eight days, Howie Roseman is poised to strike again. The Eagles’ mastermind GM has a history of aggressive moves with Saints counterpart Mickey Loomis, and the latest rumor swirling around the NovaCare Complex is a blockbuster swap for New Orleans cornerback Alontae Taylor — a 2024 standout with 89 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and a league-leading 16 pass breakups.

Taylor, set to hit free agency in 2026, represents a rare opportunity for the Saints to recoup value before losing him for nothing. Sources indicate a late third-round pick could seal the deal, a price Roseman would gladly pay to fortify a secondary that’s been exposed opposite rising star Quinyon Mitchell.

The Secondary Crisis: Mitchell Shines, But the Other Side Bleeds

Mitchell has been a revelation in his second year. Despite ranking third in targets among corners (per Next Gen Stats), he’s allowing just a 47.9% completion rate — better than all but two qualifiers — and a stingy 6.0 yards per target.

But the opposite outside corner spot? A disaster. Veteran Adoree’ Jackson leads the NFL with a 25.7% target rate per snap, ranking 66th in coverage success and 75th in yards per coverage snap allowed. Kelee Ringo, who started Sunday, ranks 53rd and 48th in those metrics. Offseason acquisition Jakorian Bennett remains on IR with a pectoral injury, his practice window just opened.

“They’re always active, they’re always aggressive,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Get Up. “I’ll be surprised if in the next two weeks the Eagles haven’t pulled off at least one trade.”

Alternate Proposal: Broncos’ Ja’Quan McMillian

If the Taylor talks stall, Roseman has a creative Plan B: CB Ja’Quan McMillian from Denver. The proposed swap:

  • Eagles receive: McMillian + 2026 7th-round pick
  • Broncos receive: 2026 6th-round pick + 2027 6th (escalates to 5th with playing time)

McMillian would slot in as a high-upside nickel with outside flexibility, pairing with Mitchell and Cooper DeJean to form a potential top-tier trio.

Pass Rush: Enough… For Now?

The edge room looks stable after recent additions, but half the league is hunting pass rushers. Roseman will make calls, but premium talent is scarce. As one source put it: “You don’t waste a pick on a body. It has to be someone who moves the needle.”

Cornerback, however, is the priority. “If anything happened to Mitchell, we’d be in big trouble,” a team insider admitted. Ringo didn’t embarrass himself Sunday, but January reliability remains a question.

Offense Rolling, No Fire Sales

The Eagles are 6-2, fresh off a 38-20 demolition of the Giants behind 276 rushing yards, 427 total yards, and four TD passes from Jalen Hurts. Saquon Barkley (14 carries, 150 yards) and Tank Bigsby (9 carries, 104 yards) both eclipsed 10 yards per carry — part of a historic Sunday with four RBs hitting that mark.

Dallas Goedert tied Amon-Ra St. Brown for the NFL lead with 7 TDs, six from inside the red zone — fueling Philly’s league-best 17-for-20 red-zone TD rate.

** A.J. Brown** (hamstring) is expected back post-bye. Schefter shut down trade rumors: “They’re not moving Brown. They’re acquiring talent, not giving it away.”

Hurts’ Historic Pace

Through eight games, Hurts is 70% completion, 15 TDs, 1 INT — joining Drew Brees (2018) as the only QBs in history to hit those marks through eight games. His 114.4 passer rating is the highest ever by an Eagles QB after eight contests.

Linebackers: Platoon or Development?

Nakia Dean (contract year) and Nolan Campbell (first-rounder) will likely split reps. Campbell’s edge versatility flashed Sunday, but reducing his snaps could stunt growth. Coaches have earned trust — a development plan is in place.

O-Line Depth Shines

With Jordan Mailata and reserves Brett Toth and Fred Johnson anchoring a dominant performance, the unit chanted postgame: “You gotta fight for your right.” A clean game indeed.

Deadline Outlook

Roseman won’t sit idle. The Taylor proposal is the bombshell — a lockdown corner on a contender’s timeline. If not Taylor, McMillian or another target will surface. One thing’s certain: by November 5, the Eagles’ secondary will look different.

And likely, much stronger.
