Cruising through the breathtaking Australian mountains, the sun kissing the rugged peaks, I had one of those surreal “pinch-me” moments. I was en route to the iconic I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp for my second exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, and I couldn’t help but think, “This is why I absolutely adore this job.” The thrill of the adventure, the glamour of showbiz journalism—it was pure bliss.

But oh, how quickly paradise can turn into a nightmare. Just hours later, amid a barrage of colorful expletives escaping my lips, I found myself questioning my life choices: “Why on earth do I put up with this insanity?” You see, in the name of fearless reporting, I’d volunteered—yes, volunteered—to tackle one of the show’s infamous Bushtucker Trials. And let me tell you, it was a catastrophe of epic proportions.
Flashback to last year: I bombed spectacularly when faced with a two-inch slab of bull’s penis, gagging and spitting it out after a pathetic eight seconds. This time around? The menu featured something even more grotesque—the hairy, dark rear end of a camel. We’re talking absolute horror show material, folks.
“The trial today is called Rotten Ringmaster,” boomed the twisted sidekick of the actual ringmaster (these are the sadistic producers who dream up the show’s vile challenges). The setup was straight out of a twisted circus nightmare: A vibrant red-and-white tent backdrop, with a precarious seat teetering above a murky pool filled with water and floating plastic balls (thank goodness they weren’t sourced from some poor animal).

A man with safety goggles sits in a ball pit as water and colorful balls are dumped on him by a person dressed as a ringmaster.

Up I stepped, the unwitting clown in this chaotic spectacle. The ringmaster dramatically unveiled a serving plate holding three chunks of that furry, ominous camel’s anus, skewered on cocktail sticks. “What do we think it is?” he teased, as if it were a gourmet riddle.
Spoiler: It sure as hell wasn’t a delicacy from Gordon Ramsay’s finest Michelin-starred kitchen. “You will eat what’s on the cocktail stick,” he commanded. “Right there for you… camel’s anus.”
I braced myself and took the plunge—literally chomping down. For a fleeting seven seconds, I held it together. Then, disaster struck: Uncontrollable retching kicked in. Three seconds more, and I was on the verge of full-blown vomiting, my stomach in total revolt. I had no choice but to eject the foul offender from my mouth, well before the 60-second clock could save me. Splash! Into the watery abyss I went, courtesy of the dunking mechanism.
Soaked to the bone, dignity shattered, and still fighting waves of nausea, I hauled myself out of the pool. Non-stop vomiting? You bet—it felt like my body was staging a full rebellion. But hey, at least I gave it a solid crack… or so I tell myself.
As I’m A Celebrity gears up for its 2025 return on ITV, with the legendary Ant and Dec back at the helm, the full line-up promises more thrills, spills, and stomach-turning trials. Who knows what horrors await the celebs this season? One thing’s for sure: I’ll be watching from a safe, vomit-free distance.
