Married at First Sight favourite Keye Luke has shared behind-the-scenes truths about his shocking split from Davide Anica.
The duo were paired up at the beginning of the E4 experiment and went on to build a sweet relationship. Viewers quickly became convinced that the pair would last beyond the reality show.
But despite sharing heartfelt final vows, Keye announced their breakup earlier this month, with Davide sharing his own statement about the ‘painful’ split.
Both grooms explained that Keye had been caught using the dating app Grindr, which instantly ended their relationship.
Now, the 33-year-old Londoner has opened up about the events leading up to the breakup in an interview with the Avoiding My Anxiously Attached Boyfriend podcast.
“The job that I was meant to go into when we came out fell through, so everyone else kind of went back to work, went back to their normal lives and I just had a dead period of nothing,” Keye told hosts Faris Haddadin and Josh Winter.
The reality star continued: “So my mental health really suffered and I ended up in just a really bad place. I was talking to Davide about it, obviously, a lot.”
Davide’s work as a flight attendant often took him to different countries for extended periods, so Keye would call him to discuss his mental health. However, Keye opening up about his mental struggles began having a ‘detrimental affect’ on his partner.
Keye revealed: “But me talking about it started to have a detrimental affect on his wellbeing because I was like phoning him crying, while he was in different countries. Because I was struggling and felt like I was drowning.
“So we decided that I wouldn’t talk to him about it anymore because it was too much for him to deal with.”
From there, Keye says the relationship “spiralled then ended”. As the groom describes it, the couple had a conversation about Keye “not talking” about his internal struggles on a Friday.
Davide then flew away for work on Saturday and Keye downloaded the LGBTQ+ dating app that following morning.
He said: “[On] Sunday morning, I spiralled, had a breakdown, downloaded Grindr. He [Davide] then downloaded Grindr and then found me on there.”
“He had a suspicion that I was on there because I wasn’t responding to his calls,” Keye added.
Although he was on a dating site, the groom was actually looking for recreational drugs, which he described as ‘substances’. “We all know we can get things there [on Grindr] free if you’re pretty,” he explained.
But when Davide found his profile, he dumped Keye over text and blocked him on everything.
The couple has since “tried to talk” but they haven’t been able to rekindle their spark.
Keye also admitted that the breakup was not on his terms, and even confessed he would open to getting back together with Davide.
