In a post-game pool report, Tony Brothers explained the decision: “We conferenced and had definite knowledge that he (Cade Cunningham) was in his upward shooting motion at the time the foul occurred. That’s why it was changed to a three-shot foul.”
The officials then reviewed the play, but only to correct a clock malfunction, not the foul itself. The clock was reset to 4.4 seconds, adding another layer of tension.
