In a stunning turn of events, Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, faces mounting scrutiny as the Football Association (FA) prepares to impose a steeper penalty on the club following a heated 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Blues demonstrated remarkable grit at St. James’ Park, clawing back from a two-goal deficit at halftime to earn a valuable point. However, their combative display came at a cost, highlighting ongoing disciplinary woes this season.

While no red cards were issued, tensions flared early when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was cautioned for protesting after Newcastle’s opener from Nick Woltemade. By the break, Chelsea had racked up three yellow cards, setting a fractious tone.
The second half saw the issues persist, with four additional bookings, including one for head coach Enzo Maresca. Under FA regulations, any team accruing six or more cautions in a single match incurs a £25,000 fine.
But for Chelsea, this marks the second such infraction, likely triggering a doubled penalty of £50,000, as reported by the Standard. Their previous clash at Manchester United in September saw five yellows and a red card for Sanchez.
Though the fine is a minor sting compared to securing a draw against Newcastle, Chelsea’s persistent behavioral lapses demand urgent attention.
Notably, the Blues lead the Premier League in red cards this season with four (six across all competitions). Midfielder Moises Caicedo, sent off early against Arsenal, missed three games, during which Chelsea faltered in two.
This latest bombshell from the FA underscores the need for BlueCo’s charges to rein in their on-pitch aggression before it derails their campaign.
