HEAT BOMBSHELL: Pat Riley’s Secret Play For Ja Morant Exposed. The Giannis Domino Effect & The 3-Team Mega-Deal Taking Shape Before Deadline

The Miami Heat have long been viewed as one of the most realistic and attractive trade destinations for disgruntled Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant. However, a new report from NBA insider Marc Stein suggests a major roadblock could emerge — and it involves none other than Giannis Antetokounmpo.

According to Stein, one league source “insisted” that the Heat “should be scratched as a Morant suitor” if pursuing the Grizzlies guard would in any way jeopardize their chances of landing the Milwaukee Bucks superstar in a future trade.

That said, the scenario might not even come into play anytime soon. Stein emphasized that “all indications are that Antetokounmpo will not be in trade play before the Feb. 5 deadline.” Giannis himself shut down trade rumors earlier this month in a candid interview with The Athletic’s Sam Amick:

“There will never be a chance, and there will never be a moment, that I will come out and say ‘I want a trade.’ That’s not … in … my … nature. OK?”

Even though Antetokounmpo has repeatedly stated he will never request a trade, Stein noted that it “won’t stop interested teams from continuing to plot future pursuits of” him. The Heat, in particular, are believed to remain “firmly in the mix as a legit trade destination” for the two-time MVP if he ever becomes available at the end of the season or beyond.

For now, Ja Morant would represent a far more affordable and realistic option compared to Giannis. But he also wouldn’t be the franchise-altering, needle-moving superstar that Antetokounmpo represents.

Morant and the Grizzlies have been at odds seemingly since the start of the 2025-26 season. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Memphis has recently begun seriously entertaining trade offers for the player who was once the face of their franchise. In just 18 games this season, Morant is averaging 19 points and 7.6 assists, while the Grizzlies sit at 18-23 (10th in the Western Conference).

Miami’s interest in Morant is understandable — his dynamic scoring, playmaking, and athleticism would add a massive spark to a team that has struggled with consistency. However, the Heat’s long-term dream appears to be landing Giannis, a player who could instantly transform them into perennial title favorites.

Right now, the Heat are playing a delicate game of chess:

Pursue Morant → potentially close the door on a future Giannis pursuitWait for Giannis → risk missing out on a proven star like Morant

The February 5 trade deadline is approaching fast, and Miami’s next moves could define their championship window for years to come.
