IT’S OFFICIAL! The $238M Star And The 6’11” Block-Machine Are Heading To Hollywood In A Shocking LeBron Trade

The relationship between LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers appears headed toward its end. Per Shams Charania (ESPN), LeBron picked up his player option and will be an unrestricted free agent in summer 2026 – but signs point to him leaving. Baxter Holmes reported Jeanie Buss privately grumbled about LeBron’s “outsized ego” and Klutch Sports’ influence. With Luka Dončić now the centerpiece, LeBron is no longer the top priority.

The Lakers (27-17, 5th in West) are seeking upgrades before the Feb. 5 deadline, but top targets (Herb Jones, Trey Murphy, Jonathan Kuminga) have been difficult. Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz proposes a bold 3-team trade: LeBron returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a storybook ending, while Lakers land longtime target Lauri Markkanen and Jarrett Allen.

Proposed 3-Team Trade

  • Cleveland Cavaliers receive: LeBron James, Bronny James, Adou Thiero
  • Los Angeles Lakers receive: Lauri Markkanen, Jarrett Allen
  • Utah Jazz receive: De’Andre Hunter, Max Strus (via TPE), Sam Merrill, Lonzo Ball, Gabe Vincent, 2027 first-round pick (via Lakers, unprotected), 2031 first-round pick (via Lakers, top-4 protected)

Why This Trade Makes Sense

  • Cavaliers: Underperforming this year. They keep Mitchell and Mobley but reunite with LeBron for a “storybook ending” – where his story began and he won the 2016 title. Bronny and Thiero add young assets.
  • Lakers: Acquire Markkanen (elite shooter/big who spaces perfectly next to Luka) and Allen (rim-runner who fits Dončić as seen in Dallas). This builds a strong “Big 3” core for Luka without long-term LeBron reliance.
  • Jazz: Markkanen is their brightest star. They gain a haul of youth and two first-round picks to accelerate rebuild.

Lakers’ Current Trade Struggles Los Angeles has “struck out” on several targets:

  • Herb Jones/Trey Murphy (Pelicans) nearly impossible.
  • Jonathan Kuminga (Warriors) rejected – Lakers “have nothing of value.”

Without moving LeBron, their package (Hachimura, Kleber, Vincent + 1 pick) lacks punch. Using LeBron opens far bigger doors.

Shams Charania’s Take Charania on Pat McAfee Show:

“The reality of what we have right here is the end of a relationship in terms of LeBron James and the Lakers. Whether that comes at the end of this season if LeBron James decides as a free agent to sign somewhere else or he decides to retire or he decides to come back for one more year and decide he wants to retire as a Laker…The end is near however you wanna slice it.”

If the end truly is near, Lakers should capitalize on LeBron’s final value – especially with a team like Cleveland that values him highest.

Lakers Nation – would you do this trade? LeBron back to Cleveland for a storybook ending? Markkanen + Allen enough to contend with Luka?
