The Boston Celtics will host the Sacramento Kings on Friday night (Jan. 30, 2026), but they are dealing with several significant injury issues.
On Thursday evening, the Celtics released an injury update listing Jaylen Brown as doubtful due to left hamstring tightness and a right knee contusion.
Brown has battled hamstring tightness for much of the season and has appeared on the injury report multiple times because of it. His potential absence (or limited minutes) could significantly impact Boston’s offensive and defensive versatility.
Additionally:
Neemias Queta is dealing with an illness but is listed as probable – likely to play.
Jayson Tatum remains out due to a torn Achilles tendon – a major injury suffered in the playoffs in May.
Tatum completed a full workout in front of reporters in Detroit last week and has recently increased his workload, leading to speculation about a possible late-season return. However, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported Thursday that Tatum informed the network he has not yet decided whether he will return this season from the torn Achilles.
Shelburne noted that Tatum said he “wants to get it right the first time, so it’s just a lot to think about.”
Celtics’ Current Situation The Celtics currently hold a 29-18 record, tied with the New York Knicks for the second-best mark in the Eastern Conference – one of the league’s elite teams. However, if Brown’s hamstring tightness lingers and Tatum does not return this season, Boston could face a significant setback heading into the playoffs, especially during the challenging winter months with a packed schedule and ongoing injury concerns.
Celtics Nation – what do you think?
Should Tatum return early to help push for a title, or shut it down for long-term health? Will Brown be ready and effective against the Kings?
