UNITED DROP A BOMBSHELL! Red Devils Reject Barcelona’s Discount Plea For Their 20-G/A Loanee

Marcus Rashford is absolutely thriving on loan at Barcelona in the 2025-26 season, and the numbers are eye-popping:

Image
  • 10 goals + 10 assists in 34 matches (as of mid-February 2026) across all competitions
  • Has gradually earned a regular starting spot, no longer just a rotation player as many feared
  • Adapted impressively to Hansi Flick’s possession-based, high-pressing style — even though many initially doubted whether his explosive, direct, individual dribbling approach would fit Barca’s tiki-taka philosophy

Because of this red-hot form, Barcelona are desperate to trigger the €30 million (£26m) buy option clause agreed in the loan deal. However, Manchester United are holding an extremely firm line: not a single euro discount.

Why United won’t budge

  • €30m is considered way too low in today’s market. Comparable attacking players in the Premier League routinely go for £50–70m+.
  • Rashford still carries huge reputation value in England, and his current performances at Barca are only increasing his market price.
  • If Barcelona don’t pull the trigger, plenty of other clubs are ready to step in — and likely pay more (PSG, Saudi Pro League clubs, or even Premier League sides if Rashford returns to England). One source close to United put it bluntly:

“If Barca don’t commit, someone else will pay €40m or higher. We don’t need to sell cheap.”

Barcelona’s financial mess

Barca remain under severe pressure from La Liga’s financial fair play rules. Spending €30 million on a 28-year-old (even one performing this well) is not straightforward, especially while juggling budget for other new signings and contract extensions for key players.

That said, with Rashford currently one of Flick’s most effective attacking players, the Barca board is reportedly scrambling to find a way to make the numbers work — even if it means paying the full €30 million United are demanding.

Bottom line

  • Manchester United: “€30m is the minimum. No negotiation. If you don’t buy, someone else will — and probably for more.”
  • Barcelona: Desperate to keep Rashford long-term but struggling financially. If they don’t act, they risk losing him to a rival.
  • Rashford: In the strongest position — excellent form, loan deal with a clear buy clause, and his value rising every week.

United fans: Is holding firm at €30m the right call, or should they be more flexible to get the deal done quickly? Barca fans: Are you willing to pay the full €30m to keep Rashford permanently?
