Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who sat out the entire 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend due to injury, has revealed big plans for next season. Curry – turning 38 next month and under contract with the Warriors for one more year through 2026-27 – declared on Sunday that he will return to the three-point contest at the 2027 All-Star break and will try to bring several stars with him.

Per ESPN (February 15, 2026): “Steph Curry will return to the three-point contest in 2027 🔥. The two-time contest champ said he’s going to try to get Klay Thompson to compete, he announced on NBC 👀.”
Curry also said he will try to recruit Kevin Durant and reigning 2026 3-Point Contest champion Damian Lillard to participate, aiming to make it a star-studded event.
Curry previously won the 3-Point Contest in 2015 (New York) and 2021 (Atlanta). Klay Thompson won in 2016 (Toronto). Damian Lillard has three titles: 2023 (Salt Lake City), 2024 (Indianapolis), and 2026 (Los Angeles).
Klay Thompson left Golden State in summer 2024 via sign-and-trade to the Dallas Mavericks (3-year, $50M deal). Curry and Thompson won four championships together with the Warriors.
Why Curry Missed All-Star 2026
Curry sat out his 12th All-Star Game due to lingering right knee pain. Toronto Raptors forward Brandon Ingram replaced him. Curry earned his 12th All-Star selection in 2025-26.
Thompson has five All-Star nods but hasn’t returned since tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals vs. Toronto, followed by an Achilles tear during rehab—missing over 2.5 years.
Warriors’ Tough Luck in 2025-26
Curry’s injury is just the latest in a string of misfortunes for Golden State this season. Superstar Jimmy Butler III tore his ACL last month and will miss the rest of the campaign—best-case return is early next season, but could be longer.
The team also dealt with Jonathan Kuminga drama early on, plus his injury, before trading him to the Atlanta Hawks before the February 5 deadline.
The Warriors were also unable to land two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks—a long-time dream pairing with Curry that would have brought legitimate title hopes back to the Bay Area.
Currently, Golden State sits at 29-26, holding eighth place in the Western Conference standings—play-in territory.
2027 Plans: Curry Wants a Star-Studded 3-Point Contest
Curry’s announcement about returning and recruiting Klay Thompson (former teammate), Kevin Durant (current teammate in this context?), and Damian Lillard signals he wants to turn the 3-Point Contest into a true superstar showdown.
Amid injuries and underwhelming results this season, Curry’s statement serves as motivation for the Warriors and fans—a promise for the future, even as he approaches 38 and enters his final contract year.
Warriors Nation: What do you think? Can Curry pull Klay, KD, and Dame into the 2027 contest? And can the Warriors turn things around to support Curry in his later years? All-Star 2027 looks promising already!
