DISAPPOINTING: The Warriors Receive More Bad News Regarding Kristaps Porzingis — COULD THIS TRADE BE GOLDEN STATE’S BIGGEST MISTAKE OF THE SEASON?

The Golden State Warriors must keep relying on veteran frontcourt stability as their long-awaited reinforcement Kristaps Porziņģis remains sidelined longer than anticipated.

Per ESPN’s Anthony Slater (Feb. 23, 2026 update), Porziņģis did not travel with the team for their quick two-game road trip to New Orleans (vs. Pelicans Tuesday) and Memphis (vs. Grizzlies Wednesday)—indicating he’ll miss at least the next two games. Draymond Green did travel, though still questionable with lower back issues.

Porziņģis was ruled out Sunday (Feb. 22) with illness (general/undisclosed), listed on the NBA injury report hours before hosting Denver Nuggets. HC Steve Kerr confirmed via text: “I haven’t talked to him… he was sick and at the hotel. He’s not even going to come over here.”

Timing was brutal: Just Saturday, Kerr said training staff cleared Porziņģis for slightly increased minutes: “We’ll bump it up a little bit… but not too much.” Post-debut (17 min, 12 pts vs. Celtics Feb. 19), plans had him off bench but contributing more spacing/scoring/rim protection—vital with Stephen Curry out (right patellofemoral pain syndrome) and Jimmy Butler sidelined (ACL).

Illness derailed everything. Warriors still upset Nuggets 128-117, powered by Al Horford‘s career night (22 pts, 6/7 3PT, 7 assists)—oldest center ever with 5 first-half threes (Polymarket Hoops). He set tone: energy, pace, ball movement.

Porziņģis—traded from Atlanta (for Jonathan Kuminga + Buddy Hield)—missed 13 games pre-trade (Achilles tendinitis), 3 post-trade. History includes POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome), causing rapid heart rate on standing—managed cautiously. Ramp-up has been methodical, but illness (possibly related or new) delays integration.

Green was late scratch vs. Nuggets (back tightened in warmups): “He was going to play… but we scratched him.” He traveled, status TBD—watch closely with back-to-back.

Frontcourt flux (Curry/Butler out, Porziņģis out, Green questionable) forces reliance on Horford: experience, spacing, poise. He’s flashed as a stopgap, but not long-term fix.

Warriors at 30-27 post-upset—season of adaptation. Horford’s steady jumper provides stability, but Porziņģis’ return is key for true frontcourt depth.
