STAMFORD BRIDGE IN UPROAR: Chelsea fans send message to board ahead of possible Nick Woltemade enquiry

Chelsea were reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Nick Woltemade before his big-money move to Newcastle United last summer. However, the Blues ultimately passed on the 24-year-old German international and entered the current season with João Pedro and Liam Delap as their primary striker options.

Now, with the summer transfer window approaching, it appears Woltemade remains on Chelsea’s radar. Recent reports suggest the club could make an enquiry for the Newcastle forward, potentially as part of a larger reshuffle in attack — especially if the Magpies revive their interest in Liam Delap.

A potential swap or linked deal between the two Premier League sides has been floated, which could also open the door for other business, including a possible move for Sandro Tonali (though Newcastle are said to value the Italy international at around £100m). This comes amid speculation that Chelsea could lose key midfielder Enzo Fernández, who has been linked with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea fans deliver clear verdict on Woltemade

Despite the reported interest, Chelsea supporters have made their feelings known — and the reaction has been largely negative.

In a fan poll conducted by The Chelsea Chronicle on TalkingPoints, the majority voiced strong opposition to signing the 24-year-old. One supporter highlighted his modest output this season, stating: “Only 7 goals in 26 games [in the Premier League], not good enough.”

Another fan was blunt: “No, don’t bring him in. Just sell Liam [Delap] and [Nicolas] Jackson. Have [João] Pedro and Emanuel Emegha up top.”

Others echoed similar sentiments, with one writing: “Woltemade is not the answer.” Alternative suggestions included building around João Pedro, Emanuel Emegha, and even Julián Álvarez, while sending Marc Guiu out on loan for more experience. Many believe persisting with Liam Delap (with competition from Emegha) offers a better internal solution than adding Woltemade.

The backlash reflects growing frustration among the Stamford Bridge faithful, who feel the board should focus on proven quality or developing existing young talent rather than pursuing a player whose output at Newcastle has been underwhelming so far.

Potential summer business with Newcastle

Even if a move for Woltemade does not materialise, Chelsea and Newcastle could still do business this summer. Newcastle’s reported pursuit of Delap provides a natural negotiation point, while interest in Tonali could add another layer to any discussions.

Chelsea fans, however, are sending a loud and clear message to the board: Woltemade is not the solution they want for the striker position.
