BREAKING: Heat CAME CLOSEST TO GIANNIS AT DEADLINE – Bucks seriously considered Herro-Ware package on Feb. 4

The Miami Heat may finally have a clearer path to landing Giannis Antetokounmpo — and a newly proposed trade framework is offering fresh insight into what it could take .

Bleacher Report salary cap expert Eric Pincus outlined a detailed scenario in which Miami acquires Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks .

In one version favoring the Heat, the deal would send Antetokounmpo to Miami along with a trade exception, while Milwaukee would receive a package headlined by Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Nikola Jović and multiple future first-round picks .

The Proposed Trade Package (Favoring Miami)

The Miami Heat receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo, $4.7 million trade exception

The Milwaukee Bucks receive: Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Nikola Jović, 2026 first-rounder, 2030 first-rounder, 2032 protected first-rounder, 2033 second-rounder, $4.6 million trade exception

The proposal underscores the type of aggressive, all-in package Miami would likely need to present to land one of the NBA’s most dominant superstars.

The Full Giannis Timeline: Why Now?

Antetokounmpo is not eligible to sign an extension until October 1, 2026, but teams around the league expect clarity on his intentions well before then — particularly ahead of the NBA Draft and free agency period .

If the 31-year-old (who turns 32 in December) declines to commit long-term, Milwaukee’s best window to trade him is before the June draft, when teams have maximum financial flexibility . “One of two things will happen: Either he will be extended, or he’ll be traded,” Bucks co-owner Wes Edens said in March .

Antetokounmpo is eligible for a four-year, $275 million supermax extension . If he signals he won’t sign it, the Bucks risk losing him for nothing in free agency after the 2026-27 season, when he holds a $62.8 million player option .

The Assets: Why Herro and Ware Are the Centerpiece

The centerpiece of Miami’s offer would be Herro and Ware — two players with both present production and long-term value .

Herro averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists this season, continuing to serve as one of Miami’s primary scoring options . He is under contract for one more season at $33 million before becoming a free agent . For a Bucks team that would be entering a rebuild, Herro is a proven offensive engine who could be flipped for even more assets.

Ware, meanwhile, emerged as one of the league’s most intriguing young big men, averaging 11.1 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks across 77 games while shooting an impressive 39.5% from three-point range . He is on a rookie contract, earning just $4.6 million next season before a team option in 2027-28 .

Nikola Jović (22 years old) would also be included, adding another young forward on a manageable deal. Jović signed a $62.4 million extension before the start of the 2025-26 season . That contract now runs through 2028-29, making him a long-term building block .

The Giannis-Bam Frontcourt: A Defensive Juggernaut

For Miami, the appeal is straightforward .

The Heat have hovered around the play-in tier in recent seasons, but adding Antetokounmpo would instantly elevate them into championship contention .

A pairing with Bam Adebayo would give Miami one of the most versatile and dominant defensive frontcourts in the league, while also maintaining elite scoring and transition pressure . The buzz in NBA circles is that Antetokounmpo wants to play alongside Adebayo, who shares a common agent in Alex Saratsis of Octagon Sports .

Even as Antetokounmpo enters his early 30s, he remains a transformational player capable of reshaping a franchise overnight .

The Bucks’ Dilemma: Hold or Trade?

Milwaukee faces a ticking clock with its franchise player. The Bucks missed the playoffs entirely this season, finishing 31-51 and out of the play-in tournament . The locker room environment was described as “tense,” with one team source telling ESPN, “The crux of the issue is feeling Giannis doesn’t want to be here on any given day” .

The Bucks seriously weighed Miami’s offer on February 4, one day before the trade deadline, sources told ESPN . Ownership ultimately concluded that holding Antetokounmpo and pursuing a stronger return in the summer represented the superior path . The Bucks informed the Heat on the morning of February 5 that no deal would be completed .

The asking price for Milwaukee was high. The Bucks sought Evan Mobley from the Cleveland Cavaliers and VJ Edgecombe from the Philadelphia 76ers, plus additional assets from both franchises simultaneously. Several teams grew frustrated when Bucks officials took days to return calls .

The Heat’s offer aligned with Milwaukee’s stated criteria more closely than competing proposals . However, no team was willing to surrender a franchise-caliber package without assurance Antetokounmpo would sign a long-term extension .

The Alternative: A Package Favoring Milwaukee

Pincus also outlined a version favoring the Bucks, in which Miami would have to give up even more depth:

The Miami Heat receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Milwaukee Bucks receive: Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis, Dru Smith, Jahmir Young, Myron Gardner, 2026 first-rounder, 2030 first-rounder, 2032 protected first-rounder, 2033 second-rounder, $9.8 million trade exception

This alternate scenario keeps Jović with the Heat but sacrifices significant depth. Jakučionis, the No. 20 pick in the 2025 draft, would be included, making it harder to flesh out the rest of the roster .

It also brings Miami closer to first-apron constraints due to the need to aggregate more outgoing salaries .

What About Andrew Wiggins?

Wiggins holds a $30.2 million player option. Pincus notes that Wiggins isn’t a realistic trade piece in an Antetokounmpo deal unless he specifically chooses to opt in and go to Milwaukee . Instead, he’s more likely to opt out and seek a new multiyear deal .

A compromise for the Heat would be $81 million over three years, starting at $25 million. Or Wiggins could seek a new home on a similar contract, perhaps with the Los Angeles Lakers .

If Wiggins opts out, the Heat would have significant cap space to pursue Antetokounmpo in free agency — but that would require Giannis to reach free agency, which is unlikely given that the Bucks would trade him before letting him walk for nothing.

The Verdict: A Summer of High Stakes

The Heat entered the 2025-26 season with playoff aspirations and a roster built around Adebayo and Herro. They finished with a 43-39 record and were eliminated in the play-in tournament . Now, they face an offseason of uncertainty, and Pincus’ proposal is a reminder that no one — not even the face of the franchise — is untouchable in pursuit of a generational talent.

Whether the Heat ultimately pull the trigger on a deal for Antetokounmpo remains to be seen. But the framework laid out by Pincus — Herro, Ware, Jović, and a treasure chest of picks — is the starting point for any serious conversation.

For now, the speculation continues. And the Heat remain in the hunt for the Greek Freak.
