Liverpool shakes up the market, signing their second ‘blockbuster’ with total spending exceeding £350 million!

Liverpool Prepared to Play “Patient War” in Pursuit of Alexander Isak, Top Striker Target This Summer

Liverpool are ready to break their transfer record to sign Alexander Isak this summer. Newcastle United, however, are determined to keep Isak at all costs and are prepared to make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history. After securing a Champions League spot, manager Eddie Howe sees Isak as the cornerstone to transforming the “Magpies” into a new Premier League powerhouse.

Isak’s current contract with Newcastle runs until June 2028, with a weekly wage of approximately £120,000. Newcastle have publicly expressed their intent to extend his contract multiple times, but formal negotiations have yet to take place. This gives hope to other major clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the newly crowned Premier League champions will closely monitor developments surrounding Isak throughout the summer. The “Reds” will wait until after June 30, a key date when the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) are reset. This also marks the end of the financial year for most clubs. Complying with the PSR, which limits losses to £105 million over three years, is crucial to avoiding point deductions.

Newcastle broke their club transfer record when they signed Isak for £63 million in August 2022. Now, they value the striker at a minimum of £150 million. Liverpool are reportedly willing to spend big, potentially breaking the English transfer record to bring Isak to Anfield, especially as manager Arne Slot seeks a new “number 9.”

Liverpool are determined to land the blockbuster signing of Isak but are waiting for the right moment. Darwin Nunez is likely to leave Liverpool for Napoli after a disappointing season that failed to meet expectations. Should Liverpool miss out on Isak, they have alternative targets lined up, including Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro. They are also keeping an eye on Viktor Gyokeres, a player also being pursued by Arsenal and Manchester United.

To date, Liverpool have spent over £200 million in just one month since the season ended. Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez is their latest signing. Prior to that, Liverpool secured Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, in addition to goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, a deal finalized last year but included in this summer’s budget. Liverpool’s total expenditure has reached £216 million.

With most of their transfer business completed before the players return for pre-season training, sporting director Richard Hughes and manager Slot remain calm about the “gamble” that is Isak. Liverpool understand that waiting for the right moment may be the only way to make their dream of signing Isak a reality.

Isak enjoyed a sensational season, scoring 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions, including 23 in the Premier League. He played a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph, defeating Liverpool in the final to end a 70-year trophy drought. Additionally, Newcastle finished fifth to secure a return to the Champions League.
