Melissa and Joe Gorga Take Legal Action Against County – ‘Wife Swap’ Spinoff in Jeopardy Over Shocking Permit Delay!

Reality TV stars Melissa and Joe Gorga are facing an unexpected hurdle in their highly anticipated return to the small screen. The former Real Housewives of New Jersey (RHONJ) power couple has filed a lawsuit against the Borough of Franklin Lakes, alleging that local officials are deliberately stalling a critical filming permit needed to shoot an episode of Bravo’s upcoming spinoff, Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition. The legal drama, which surfaced in a filing dated May 21, 2025, has sent shockwaves through Bravo’s fanbase, threatening to derail the Gorgas’ comeback just as excitement for the new show reaches a fever pitch.

The lawsuit comes at a pivotal moment for the RHONJ franchise, which has been on hiatus for nearly two years following Bravo executive Andy Cohen’s announcement of a major overhaul. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news of which housewives would return, and rumors have swirled about the Gorgas’ involvement in the innovative Wife Swap spinoff. Former RHONJ cast member Kim DePaola recently fueled speculation in an interview with OK! Magazine, revealing that Melissa was one of three housewives offered “promise letters” by the network, signaling their continued interest. “I can tell you, officially, they executed on one of those letters by giving Melissa a spot on Wife Swap,” DePaola confirmed, sparking excitement among fans.

The Gorgas, known for their charisma and drama-filled storylines, were reportedly thrilled about the opportunity to bring their signature flair to the spinoff. However, their plans hit a snag when Franklin Lakes allegedly refused to issue the necessary filming permit for production at their home. According to a legal document shared on X by the account HWJunkie1, the Gorgas’ attorney, William J. Rush, laid out the couple’s grievances:

“Plaintiffs are alleging that Defendants are wrongfully withholding and/or delaying the issuance of a Filming Permit in the Borough of Franklin Lakes. Plaintiffs are reality television performers and are under contract to film at their residence on June 6, 2025.”

Rush, a lawyer better known for DUI defense cases, is now leading the charge to secure the permit before the critical filming date. The filing, lodged under the case name Trellis Gorga vs. Borough of Franklin Lakes, urgently requests a court hearing to resolve the issue, emphasizing the tight timeline: “It is respectfully requested that the court hear this order to show cause at the court’s earliest convenience so if Plaintiffs are granted the requested relief, they will have enough time to file the appropriate permit.”

The legal standoff adds a dramatic twist to the Gorgas’ ongoing saga with reality television, raising questions about whether bureaucratic red tape could jeopardize their return to Bravo. The network has remained tight-lipped about the situation, leaving fans on edge as they await updates on the spinoff’s production.

As the court date looms, one thing is clear: Melissa and Joe Gorga are not backing down without a fight. With their reality TV future hanging in the balance, this high-stakes legal battle is shaping up to be as gripping as any Housewives episode. Will the Gorgas triumph and secure their spot on Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition, or will local politics keep them off the air? Stay tuned—this drama is just getting started.
