Fans are stunned as the Chiefs release a beloved player, then immediately sign an undrafted WR!

The Chiefs added an undrafted wide receiver, who was most recently with another AFC threat earlier this offseason.

The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their 2025 training camp at Missouri Western State University on Monday, marking the start of their journey to return to the Super Bowl. As always, the opening of camp brings intense position battles, with players vying for spots on the 53-man roster and practice squad. For Chiefs fans, the wide receiver depth chart is a focal point, as the competition for the final spots is always fierce.

In a surprising move last week, the Chiefs parted ways with fan-favorite wide receiver Justyn Ross, who had been with the team since 2022. Ross, who appeared in 12 games during his tenure, was a beloved figure among the fanbase, making his release a shock to many. The decision to waive the young receiver left fans wondering who would step up to fill the void at the bottom of the depth chart.

However, the Chiefs wasted no time addressing the vacancy. On Monday, Nick Jacobs of KSHB 41 News reported that Kansas City signed undrafted free agent wide receiver Hal Presley, who played college football at Baylor. Presley, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound playmaker, was briefly with the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason after signing with them following the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bills released him after their rookie minicamp in May, giving the Chiefs an opportunity to scoop him up.

During his time at Baylor, Presley recorded 81 receptions for 1,048 yards and seven touchdowns. His junior season in 2023 was hampered by injury, limiting him to 17 receptions for 222 yards in six games. However, he bounced back in his final collegiate season, posting 31 receptions for 429 yards and three touchdowns across 12 games. In 2022, his standout performance earned him an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection.

While Presley may not dazzle with elite receiving skills, he brings value in other areas. His size and physicality make him a strong blocker, and he has experience contributing on special teams. For an undrafted player fighting for a roster spot, these skills could be his ticket to making the Chiefs’ 53-man roster. With a crowded wide receiver room, Presley faces stiff competition, but his versatility gives him a fighting chance.

The Chiefs also held tryouts with other receivers, including Amari Rodgers and Seth Williams, but Presley was the one to earn a contract. His signing offers him a fresh start after being let go by the Bills, and a strong training camp could make Buffalo regret their decision. For Chiefs fans still reeling from Ross’s departure, Presley represents an intriguing new addition with the potential to carve out a role in Kansas City.

As training camp progresses, all eyes will be on Presley and the rest of the Chiefs’ wide receivers as they battle for roster spots. Will the undrafted rookie seize this opportunity and make a name for himself in Kansas City? Only time will tell, but the Chiefs’ latest roster move has certainly sparked excitement and curiosity among the Kingdom.
