NEW WIFE FIRES BACK: “This Is INDEFENSIBLE!” – MAFS UK Groom Steven Forced to Apologize, Admits He Was ‘Blinded by His Own Ego’

The drama on Married at First Sight UK has reached fever pitch, with Steven and Nelly, once the show’s golden couple, now at the center of a heartbreaking fallout. Following a tense episode on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, both issued emotional Instagram statements, revealing cracks in their relationship that have left fans reeling and questioning whether the couple has called it quits.

The trouble began during the latest commitment ceremony, where relationship expert Paul Brunson called out Steven for his behavior toward Nelly. The couple, who initially chose to stay in the experiment, hoped for smoother waters. However, their separate group outings—Steven at a spa day and Nelly at a cocktail evening—turned into emotional battlegrounds.

At the spa, Steven faced tough criticism from his peers, who urged him to take accountability for mistreating Nelly. Instead of reflecting, Steven erupted, storming out in a fit of anger. This wasn’t his first outburst; at a prior dinner party, he shocked castmates by labeling them “c***s” after they questioned his alleged boasts about his pre-show sex life at a pub. Meanwhile, Nelly, overwhelmed by support from her group, broke down in tears as they insisted she deserved better.

After the episode aired, Steven took to Instagram with a raw and reflective apology. Describing the spa day as an “anger management session,” he admitted the show was “difficult to watch.” In a direct address to Nelly, he wrote, “Blinded by my own ego and not taking accountability sooner, I broke someone who never deserved to be broken & that was hard to re-watch.” He continued, “I need to apologise to @drnellyp again here, because you should never have been put in that situation where you felt isolated and alone in a marriage. That’s on me and I’ll own every bit of hurt that has come from me.”

Fans, however, were skeptical. One commenter, once a staunch supporter, wrote, “I was your biggest cheerleader and now I’m just so confused by your behaviour.” Another added, “I’m glad you’ve seen how s***** your behaviour is . . . No hate meant here.” A third urged Steven to address his “anger, passive-aggressive behaviour, and seeming lack of empathy,” expressing concern for his emotional growth.

Nelly’s Instagram statement painted a picture of a woman grappling with pain and doubt. “Seeing myself back so broken and lost was honestly painful,” she shared. Reflecting on their relationship, she revealed fleeting moments of hope: “Behind the scenes, things between Steven and I had started to feel calmer. There were small moments—the closeness, the cuddles, the kisses, the quiet chats in bed. THAT gave me hope things might be getting better.” Yet, she admitted to an internal struggle: “How do you defend something when, deep down, you know the behaviour isn’t defensible?”

Nelly also highlighted the challenge of watching the show unfold, noting that she, like viewers, was unaware of some conversations until they aired. “Some scenes and conversations I’m not actually present for—so when they air, I’m watching and hearing them for the very first time, just like everyone else. That’s not always easy,” she explained.

Her co-stars rallied around her in the comments. Keye wrote, “Love you so much! Will always defend you till the end!” Rebecca echoed, “Love you. We’ll always have your back,” while Maeve called Nelly “an incredible human” she’s grateful to know.

Nelly’s pointed remarks about “indefensible” behavior have sparked speculation that the couple may have parted ways. However, unlike another MAFS UK pair, Grace and Ashley, who no longer follow each other on Instagram, Steven and Nelly still do—hinting at either a lingering romantic connection or a friendly resolution.
