IT’S OFFICIAL! LeBron James doesn’t want to create drama between him and Luka Doncic

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a major blow on Christmas Day: Austin Reaves is diagnosed with a strained gastrocnemius in his left calf and is expected to miss at least four weeks. Reaves has been playing at an All-Star level (scoring, playmaking, clutch moments), making his absence a significant setback for the slumping Lakers.

Both head coach JJ Redick and the stars recognize the challenge: more will be asked of LeBron James and Luka Dončić. But both emphasized – it’s not just on them; the entire team must rise.

LeBron after Sunday’s 125-101 win over the Sacramento Kings:

“I don’t want to create the narrative of [just] me and Luka. It’s five guys on the floor and seven guys that come off the bench. It needs to be all of us. [But] it’s important that we set the tone.”

Luka echoed the sentiment, laughing lightly at the direct question:

“I think it definitely starts with us. And when AR is back, it’s going to be all three of us. But now, it starts with us. We need to show what we can do and if we are going to do it, we both are going to do it. The group is going to follow.”

Win Over Kings Was Proof It was LeBron and Luka’s 37th game together – and one of their best:

  • Luka: 34 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds.
  • LeBron: 24 points, 3 assists, 5 rebounds – his best shooting performance as a Laker.

Redick postgame:

“I’m not surprised at the way those two guys played together tonight, because yesterday was one of the best practices we’ve had with the two of them playing together and just sharing the basketball and playing two-man action.”

Redick revealed: after the dismal Christmas loss, the team held a film session, revisited basic schemes, and clarified roles. The result was a dominant win over the Kings – better defense, smoother offense.

The Challenge Ahead Reaves out for four weeks means LeBron (41) and Luka (26) must shoulder more:

  • Scoring, playmaking, leadership.
  • Setting the tone for the entire roster – bench to defense.

If they sustain the Kings-level play, the Lakers remain in the playoff hunt and could make noise in the postseason – especially with Tatum nearing return. But inconsistency could expose the gap Reaves leaves.
