Chelsea fans, brace yourselves – Liam Rosenior has just delivered the news every Blue has been desperate to hear ahead of Saturday evening’s Premier League clash with West Ham at Stamford Bridge.
Cole Palmer is not only fit… he’s ready to start.
After coming off the bench to tear Napoli apart in midweek – providing two assists in Chelsea’s thrilling 3-2 Champions League comeback win in Naples – the England star has been given the green light to lead the line against the Hammers.
Speaking at Cobham on Friday, Rosenior could barely hide his excitement as he confirmed the sensational team news:
“Cole is fine. He came through the other night with two assists and an outstanding performance. He is available to start tomorrow, and of course, we are really happy about that.”
The head coach went on to heap praise on his talisman, describing the impact Palmer made against Antonio Conte’s side as “excellent” and insisting the 22-year-old is desperate to play every minute.
“He wants to play every minute of every game; that is what makes him a special talent,” Rosenior said. “The impact he had against Napoli showed really good signs. For a player to start at this level, there has to be a level of fitness – and Cole is there.”
West Ham, prepare to be rattled. Palmer terrorising defences from the first whistle at Stamford Bridge is the last thing Julen Lopetegui’s side needed after Chelsea’s midweek statement in Italy.
Rosenior also provided positive updates on the treatment table, with several key players edging closer to returns – though none will be rushed.
Romeo Lavia, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Dario Essugo are all “progressing well day by day.” Tosin was back on the grass completing individual rehab work on Friday, while Lavia is in a “really good place” as he completes the final stage of his recovery.
Perhaps the most encouraging news concerned Levi Colwill. The defender, sidelined since pre-season with a knee injury, is making strong progress and could even return before the end of the campaign.
“I spoke to Levi this morning,” Rosenior revealed. “He’s working so hard, such a professional. It’s brilliant to see him back running. He’s itching to get back, but we need to make sure he’s 100 per cent perfect. He’s another outstanding player I can’t wait to work with.”
No timelines, no risks – just cautious optimism from a manager who knows the importance of having his full arsenal available.
But make no mistake: the headline act on Saturday will be Cole Palmer from the opening minute.
West Ham won’t know what’s hit them.
