BOSTON — Jaylen Brown just dropped a bombshell after cementing his place deeper in Celtics history — and his reaction to becoming the franchise’s 10th all-time leading scorer came in just four words.

During Wednesday night’s 120-99 demolition of the Golden State Warriors at TD Garden, the longest-tenured Celtic stepped to the free-throw line in the second quarter and calmly drained two shots. That moment pushed him past 1973 MVP Dave Cowens and into 10th place on the legendary leaderboard with 13,202 career points.
The five-time All-Star now sits just 705 points behind Jayson Tatum, with Bill Russell — the greatest winner in NBA history — directly ahead of the unstoppable duo.
After the blowout, Brown was asked about joining the Celtics’ pantheon of immortals. His bombshell response? Just four words:
“I’m very grateful.”
That simple, humble reply said everything.

Brown couldn’t miss early, raining jumper after jumper against a shorthanded Warriors team missing Stephen Curry. While Golden State tried to stay competitive, Brown and Tatum combined for 56 points (32 from Brown, 24 from Tatum) in a game that was never close.
“It just goes to show the dedication and the commitment that he’s made to his craft,” Tatum said of his co-star. “I’ve seen him develop and get better every single year. It’s just cool when you get rewarded for the work.”
Brown carried the team during Tatum’s 62-game absence earlier this season while rehabbing from an Achilles rupture — posting career-high numbers across the board. Since Tatum’s return on March 6, the Celtics are 5-1 and riding a three-game win streak.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla couldn’t hide his admiration: “You don’t take for granted being able to coach some of the best players in the game today… but some of the best players of all time.”
What Brown and Tatum have built together is historic. They would already be the all-time scoring leaders of six other NBA franchises and own more playoff wins than most teams. Both have shown total commitment — Tatum with his relentless rehab, Brown with an MVP-level season when many doubted him.
“For Jaylen, the responsibility and ownership of taking on being a Celtic and going after greatness is extremely important,” Mazzulla added. “The ability to make history… is the stepping stone of leaving the franchise better than you found it.”
With the 46-23 Celtics rolling and both stars locked in, the focus is clear: another ring in June 2026.
Brown made it crystal clear Monday night after dropping 41 on the Suns: “I felt like I could always be one of the top players in the world… Now the focus is to get ready for the playoffs.”
