Celtics Make Jaylen Brown Announcement Before Charlotte Matchup

Boston has now officially listed Jaylen Brown as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Hornets as he manages left Achilles tendinitis. He is considered day-to-day, and many view his questionable status (rather than being ruled out outright) as a positive sign.

Brown has been having an outstanding season, averaging 28.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game across 65 appearances. He is shooting 47.7% from the field and 34.2% from beyond the arc in his 10th NBA season after being selected third overall in the 2016 Draft out of Cal.

The two-time All-Star and 2024 NBA Finals MVP has been one of the league’s premier forwards, helping lead the Celtics to six Eastern Conference Finals appearances and two NBA Finals trips, including the 2024 championship win over the Dallas Mavericks where he earned Finals MVP honors.

Despite missing star Jayson Tatum for more than half the season, the Celtics sit as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference with a strong 49-24 record through 73 games. They have won two straight and seven of their last ten.

On the other side, the Hornets are the No. 8 seed in the East with a 39-34 (or 39-35) record through 73-74 games. Charlotte has been rolling lately, winning five in a row and seven of their last ten.

What This Means for the Celtics

Brown’s availability remains uncertain heading into the first game of a road trip, and the Celtics’ injury report is lengthy. Jayson Tatum (right Achilles repair management), Derrick White (right knee contusion), and Neemias Queta (right thumb sprain) are also questionable, while Nikola Vucevic is out with a finger fracture.

If Brown is unable to play, Boston will once again rely on its depth — as they did successfully against the Hawks — to keep their momentum going in what could be a tightly contested matchup against a hot Hornets team.

Stay tuned for final updates on Brown and the rest of the Celtics’ injury situation as tip-off approaches. This announcement adds significant intrigue to what was already shaping up to be a pivotal Eastern Conference clash.
