Alejandro Garnacho TAKES BLAME for United exit struggles – “I did bad things” – THE CONFESSION THAT STUNNED FANS.

Almost a year after his controversial departure from Manchester United, Alejandro Garnacho has finally broken his silence. In a candid and emotional interview, the Chelsea winger has admitted that the nature of his exit “hurt” and confessed that his own behaviour played a significant role in his downfall at Old Trafford.

The Argentine winger, who joined Chelsea for £40 million last summer, revealed that a toxic mix of frustration, immaturity, and poor decision-making led to his acrimonious split from the club he claims to have “loved.”

The Final Six Months: A Spiral of Frustration

Garnacho’s trajectory at Manchester United was once sky-high. From breaking into the first team as a teenager to scoring in an FA Cup final, he was widely considered the future of the club’s attack. However, everything changed following the arrival of manager Ruben Amorim in late 2024 .

The Portuguese coach’s preferred 3-4-3 system offered no natural fit for a traditional winger. Garnacho found himself on the bench, and the frustration began to boil over.

“I remember in the last six months I was just not playing like before at Manchester United,” Garnacho told Premier League Productions . “I started to be on the bench. It’s not a bad thing, I was only 20 years old, but in my mind it was like I had to play every game.”

This mentality, he admits, led him down a dark path.

“In my mind, maybe it is also on me, I started to do some bad things,” he confessed . “But yes, it was just this moment in life and sometimes you have to make decisions.”

The ‘Bad Things’ That Sealed His Fate

While Garnacho did not specify every individual act, his final months at Old Trafford were marred by a series of high-profile incidents that damaged his relationship with the club and its fans.

The most notable flashpoint came after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, where Garnacho was only brought on as a late substitute. He publicly fumed at Amorim’s decision, and his brother Roberto took to social media to accuse the manager of throwing the player “under the bus” .

The relationship was broken beyond repair. In June, Garnacho was reportedly told by Amorim in front of his teammates that he had to leave .

His final act of defiance came as he was heading out the door. He posted a picture of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with the name of his exiled teammate, Marcus Rashford, on the back. The provocative gesture did not go down well with the United fanbase, who felt he was mocking the club .

‘It Hurt, Because I Loved That Club’

Despite the bitterness of the split, Garnacho insists that leaving Manchester was a painful experience.

When asked directly if the exit hurt him, he replied without hesitation: “Yeah, maybe yes, because I loved that club, you know?” .

“They gave me the confidence from the start, from Spain, to bring me to the academy, then they bring me to the first team, so it was like four or five years, and amazing love from everyone, from the fans, the stadium, everything was really good” .

However, he maintains that he has “no regrets” about the transfer, viewing it as a necessary step for his career.

“It’s just sometimes you have to change for the good of your life or the next steps,” he said. “I only have good memories of Man United. With United, I have nothing wrong to say about the club, no one in the club or the team-mates. It’s just a moment in life that changes and life continues” .

Life After United: A Struggle for Consistency

The fresh start Garnacho envisioned at Stamford Bridge has yet to materialize. Since joining Chelsea, the 21-year-old has struggled to find the consistency that once made him a Premier League standout.

He has managed just one Premier League goal in 20 appearances this season, and recent reports suggest the Blues are already open to parting ways with the Argentine . His decline in form has been so stark that there have been shock reports linking him with a loan move back to South America with River Plate .

Fan Reaction: Maturity or Damage Control?

Unsurprisingly, Garnacho’s latest comments have sparked a heated debate among Manchester United fans. While some have praised him for taking “accountability,” many remain skeptical, viewing the interview as a carefully timed PR stunt to repair his image after failing to succeed at Chelsea .

The debate now centers on whether Garnacho’s reflection represents genuine maturity—or simply regret that the grass wasn’t greener on the other side. Regardless of the intent, one thing is certain: his turbulent departure from Old Trafford will remain a defining, and painful, chapter in his career.
