Bethenny Frankel Just Confessed to a Fashion Sin So Bad, It Haunts Her Best Friend’s Wedding

In the world of wedding etiquette, there’s one rule that reigns supreme: never wear white unless you’re the bride. But three decades ago, a young Bethenny Frankel, now 54 and a beloved alum of The Real Housewives of New York City, committed this cardinal fashion sin—and she only realized it years later.

On June 30, 2025, Frankel took to TikTok to share a throwback group photo from her best friend’s wedding, where she stood side by side with the bride. Both women were dressed in long white gowns, a choice that unknowingly broke the unspoken code of wedding guest attire. In a playful onscreen text overlay, Frankel wrote, “She doesn’t know it yet but in 30yrs she will realize for the first time that wearing white to a wedding is an unspeakable fashion crime…”

In many Western cultures, wearing white as a wedding guest is considered a bold misstep, often interpreted as an attempt to steal the spotlight from the bride, whose white gown traditionally symbolizes her unique role in the celebration. Yet, Frankel’s fashion faux pas didn’t fracture her friendship. In her caption, she shared, “Yesterday I realized for the first time I wore white to my best friend’s wedding… our friendship survived this travesty and we remain bff’s to this day.”

The TikTok post sparked a wave of reactions, with fans both amused and shocked. “Bethany [sic] I am dead. This is a long white gown 🤣🤣🤣,” one user commented, while another exclaimed, “Girl!!!!!! WHAT DID YOU DOOOOOOOO.” When someone questioned, “How did you not know 😭,” Frankel replied candidly, “I was 25.”

Surprisingly, Frankel wasn’t the only guest who missed the memo. In the same photo, another woman sported a silvery white gown, suggesting the dress code might have been a collective oversight. Despite the mistake, Frankel remains unapologetic but not exactly proud. In a comment, she admitted, “It’s nothing I’m proud of,” revealing she still owns the infamous dress—a vintage Tom Ford-era Gucci gown from the Fall 1996 collection, later worn by Bella Hadid at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

Frankel’s lighthearted confession serves as a reminder that even the savviest among us can stumble into etiquette blunders. Yet, with a friendship strong enough to withstand a white dress debacle, it’s clear that some bonds are more enduring than any fashion faux pas.
