Blockbuster: Messi set to ‘lose’ Argentine teammate as Inter Miami seals $7M deal for Liga MX talent!

Inter Miami is making waves in the transfer market as they chase silverware in the Leagues Cup and beyond, with Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano leading the charge. The MLS powerhouse is on the verge of a major squad overhaul, balancing an ambitious incoming signing with the departure of a promising Argentine talent.

According to Súper Deportivo, Inter Miami is closing in on a blockbuster deal to sign Argentine center back Gonzalo Piovi from Liga MX’s Cruz Azul. The 30-year-old defender has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with the Herons, signaling their intent to bolster the back line for the season’s critical stages. However, the transfer hinges on resolving Piovi’s release from Cruz Azul, with the Mexican club holding firm on a $7 million valuation, as per TUDN. Cruz Azul has made it clear: no payment, no deal.

Piovi has been a cornerstone of Cruz Azul’s defense since joining in January 2024, featuring in 74 matches and providing six assists. While he’s yet to find the net, his reliability and experience make him a prime target for Inter Miami as they aim to solidify their defense and chase major trophies.

On the flip side, Inter Miami is bracing for the departure of one of their brightest young stars. Argentine midfielder Federico Redondo is set to join LaLiga’s Elche in a permanent transfer, marking a bittersweet moment for the Herons. The 22-year-old, who arrived in Miami in early 2024 for approximately €8 million, has secured a $3 million deal for 50% of his rights, with a contract running through 2030. Redondo, who holds a Spanish passport, will seamlessly integrate into Elche’s squad without occupying a non-EU roster spot—a key factor in the swift negotiations.

During his 18-month stint with Inter Miami, Redondo made 60 appearances, scoring two goals and contributing four assists. His role in helping the team clinch the Supporters’ Shield cemented his status as a fan favorite, but the lure of European football has proven too strong.

As Inter Miami navigates these high-stakes transfer dealings, the club remains focused on building a squad capable of dominating the MLS and making a deep run in the Leagues Cup. The potential arrival of Piovi could provide the defensive stability needed to complement Messi’s attacking brilliance, while Redondo’s departure opens the door for new talent to emerge.
