The Los Angeles Lakers have made a strategic roster adjustment, waiving center Christian Koloko to convert Drew Timme’s impressive G League performance into a two-way contract opportunity.
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Lakers executed a roster maneuver on Monday, parting ways with center Christian Koloko to create space for former Gonzaga standout Drew Timme on a two-way contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Boston Celtics, Brad Stevens, Los Angeles Lakers.
Timme, who went undrafted out of Gonzaga despite a decorated collegiate career, has been dominating for the South Bay Lakers, averaging impressive numbers of 25.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in the G League. The 6-foot-10 center previously showcased his skills with the Brooklyn Nets late last season, putting up 12.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in nine appearances.
Koloko’s departure marks the end of a brief stint with his hometown team. The 7-foot-1 center from Cameroon appeared in just two games this season, totaling only 6:21 of playing time. During his 37-game tenure with the Lakers, Koloko averaged 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in limited minutes.
The move raises questions about Koloko’s future prospects. While the 25-year-old big man showed promise during his rookie season with Toronto—averaging 1.0 blocks per game in 58 appearances—his career was disrupted by an illness that cost him the entire 2023-24 season.
For the Boston Celtics, a potential Koloko acquisition appears unlikely given their current roster construction. The organization appears committed to:
Developing second-round pick Amari Williams in the G League
Maintaining their final roster spot for financial flexibility
Preserving existing two-way contracts (Williams, Max Shulga, Ron Harper Jr.)
While Koloko’s size and defensive potential could attract interest from other teams, the Celtics’ strategic approach to roster management and tax savings makes them an improbable destination for the former Arizona standout.
