Chelsea have been dealt a major setback with Liam Rosenior confirming that winger Jamie Gittens has suffered a torn hamstring and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The 21-year-old was forced off just 26 minutes into last weekend’s victory over West Ham after picking up the injury. At the time, Rosenior admitted he was unsure of the severity, but Thursday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wolves brought the bad news Blues fans had been dreading.

“Jamie is looking more long-term,” Rosenior said. “It’s a real shame. A tear in his hamstring. “I can’t ever say exactly how long—it’s too early—but it’s not going to be weeks.”
The absence of Gittens is a significant blow to Chelsea’s attacking options. Despite not yet being a guaranteed starter, the young winger has been an important part of the squad this season, making 27 appearances across all competitions and providing valuable rotation on the left flank.
With Gittens now out, Chelsea are left with only three natural senior wingers: Pedro Neto, Estevao, and Alejandro Garnacho. None of the trio has managed to hit consistent form this term, while promising youngster Tyrique George was recently loaned out to Everton, further thinning the depth in wide areas.
Cole Palmer can shift to the right wing if needed, which would allow Neto or Estevao to cover the left, but that move risks leaving the Blues short in the No.10 position where Palmer has been so influential.
Rosenior now faces a selection headache as Chelsea prepare to face a resurgent Wolves side. The timing could hardly be worse, with the team already navigating a demanding schedule and looking to maintain momentum in the Premier League.
Supporters will hope the remaining wingers can step up in Gittens’ absence, but the loss of the talented 21-year-old is undoubtedly a hammer blow to Chelsea’s firepower at a critical stage of the season.
