BOMBSHELL IN THE BAY: Stephen Curry just LOST his untouchable status if Warriors go all-in for Giannis.

The Golden State Warriors have never hesitated to accommodate Stephen Curry’s family ties in the name of keeping their franchise icon content. From his brother Seth Curry suiting up last season to brother-in-law Damion Lee spending four productive years with the organization — including meaningful minutes on the 2022 championship team — the Dubs have shown a willingness to make roster decisions with family in mind.

That era of privilege, however, appears destined to end if Golden State pursues a blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

In a potential Giannis-led future, the Antetokounmpo family would take priority at the end of the bench. Thanasis Antetokounmpo, who spent six seasons as Giannis’ teammate in Milwaukee in a limited, end-of-the-bench role, and Alex Antetokounmpo, who was on a two-way contract with the Bucks this past season, would likely follow their brother to the Bay Area. Giannis has made it clear he values having family around him, and the Warriors would almost certainly bend over backward to keep their new superstar happy.

A Necessary Shift in Loyalty

While the idea of pairing Curry with a transcendent talent like Giannis Antetokounmpo is tantalizing — offering a realistic path to push the aging core back into legitimate title contention — it would mark a subtle but significant power shift within the organization.

Curry has long been the face of the franchise and has repeatedly expressed his desire to finish his career in Golden State as a one-team player, much like Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki. He isn’t going anywhere. Yet acquiring Giannis would require the Warriors to prioritize the Greek Freak’s happiness above all else, especially with Giannis holding a player option for the 2027-28 season that he is expected to decline, potentially making him an unrestricted free agent or extension candidate.

To secure Giannis long-term, the front office would need to do “whatever necessary” to ensure he wants to remain in the Bay Area — and that includes carving out roster spots for his brothers. Thanasis, now 33, is viewed more as a locker-room presence and vibe provider than a legitimate NBA rotation player. The Warriors would have to accept significantly less on-court value compared to Seth Curry, an elite shooter, or Damion Lee, who earned regular playing time during the championship run.

The Depth Dilemma

This creates a genuine tension for a Warriors team already navigating the challenges of an aging core. In today’s NBA, depth and roster flexibility are more critical than ever. Golden State is currently over the salary cap with just nine players under contract for next season. A trade for Giannis would reportedly cost them Jimmy Butler, leaving them with major holes to fill through minimum-salary signings — never an easy task when competing for championships.

Sacrificing a roster spot for a player who offers minimal on-court contribution is a risky proposition, regardless of familial connections. Yet in the pursuit of a player of Giannis’ caliber, it may be a price the organization is willing to pay.

A Good Problem to Have

For Warriors fans, this would represent the ultimate “good problem.” The arrival of a two-time MVP and Finals MVP like Giannis would instantly elevate the team’s ceiling and give Stephen Curry one final window to chase another ring before his legendary career winds down.

Still, the shift in dynamics is undeniable. The family-first accommodations that once revolved around the Curry clan would pivot toward the Antetokounmpos. Seth Curry’s potential return to the Bay Area remains uncertain and could even be impacted by the pursuit of Giannis.

In the end, if the Warriors go all-in for the Greek Freak, they will be signaling a new chapter — one where keeping Giannis happy becomes the top priority. For a franchise that has built its modern identity around loyalty to Steph Curry, that represents a quiet but seismic change in the hierarchy.

All eyes now remain on how this offseason unfolds. A Giannis trade would reshape not just the roster, but the very culture of family privileges within the Golden State Warriors.
