Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, has reportedly secured the signature of promising young Burkinabe midfielder Mohamed Zongo from Sporting Cascades. The 16-year-old sensation will initially join Strasbourg for development before potentially making the move to Stamford Bridge.
Previous reports had already positioned Chelsea as frontrunners in the pursuit of Zongo, who attracted interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City, among others.

The attacking midfielder rose to prominence with his standout performances at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar last November. Zongo played a key role in guiding Burkina Faso to the quarter-finals, scoring crucial goals in knockout-stage victories over Germany in the round of 32 and Uganda in the round of 16.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Chelsea have emerged victorious in the race, striking an agreement with Sporting Cascades despite competition from clubs in England and Germany.
According to Romano, BlueCo’s strategy involves sending Zongo to their affiliate club Strasbourg in France for initial development, with the long-term aim of integrating him into Chelsea’s squad.
However, due to FIFA regulations restricting the international transfer of minors, Zongo is expected to remain with his current club until he turns 18 in November 2027 before relocating to Europe.
“My understanding is that the contract is already signed,” Romano revealed on his YouTube channel.
He further emphasized that Zongo, alongside fellow prospect Deinner Ordonez, is viewed as a “super talent” rather than merely a player for future profit.
“They believe Zongo can be a Chelsea player in the future, absolutely, similar to Ordonez,” Romano added. “Chelsea are delighted with this addition.”
This move aligns with Chelsea’s recent strategy of investing in raw young talents to build for the future. Players like Andrey Santos and Estevao have already progressed to feature in Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad, highlighting the club’s commitment to nurturing emerging stars.
