BREAKING HEAT HISTORY BY BAM! How Bam Adebayo’s Triple-Double Made History In Win Over Thunder

In a night when the Miami Heat desperately needed a true leader, Bam Adebayo stepped up and made history. On Friday night (January 16, 2026), the Heat defeated the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder convincingly at Kaseya Center, and the 9-year veteran All-Star center was the star of the show with his most complete performance of the season.

Adebayo led the team with 30 points, grabbed 12 rebounds (including 6 offensive), and drained a career-high 6 three-pointers on 10 attempts. Before this recent stretch, he had made just 6 threes across his previous 14 games, but over the last three contests (during the homestand), Bam has buried 13 threes on 23 attempts—an astonishing transformation.

Bam Adebayo

This performance made Adebayo the first center in Miami Heat history to record at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 made threes in a single game. Only three other Heat players (regardless of position) have ever reached this benchmark in franchise history:

Victor Oladipo (2021-22)LeBron James (2011-12)Mike Miller (2010-11)Bam Adebayo (2025-26)

Across the entire NBA this season, only five centers have achieved this stat line: Nikola Jokić (twice), Karl-Anthony Towns, Alperen Şengün, Onyeka Okongwu (twice), and Victor Wembanyama. Bam not only joined this elite group of big-man shooters but also proved his evolution as a complete offensive threat.

From “Unrecognizable” to “All-Around Superstar”

This season hasn’t been smooth for Adebayo. From December 6, 2025, to January 11, 2026, over a 13-game stretch, he averaged just 12.4 points on 39.9% FG and a dismal 45.7% TS%—alarming numbers for a three-time All-Star. Multiple nagging injuries made him look “nothing like himself,” especially on the offensive end.

But something flipped over the last few games. He scored 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting against the Phoenix Suns, followed by 22 points against the Boston Celtics earlier this week. The Thunder game was the peak: decisive drives, mid-range mastery, deep threes, aggressive offensive rebounding, and elite defense everywhere, just as head coach Erik Spoelstra described postgame:

“Obviously, Bam was sensational. When you have one of these kinds of games, when you have to do it by any means necessary, you want somebody like Bam leading the way… You’re getting the scoring; you’re getting the playmaking; you’re getting the facilitating. You’re getting offensive rebounding and, defensively, he was everywhere.”

Adebayo himself spoke with full confidence after the game:

“My teammates, my coaching staff, they know what I’m capable of. Every shot I take, I work on all the time… But if you play the right way, and then you’re open, he wants you to shoot the ball. I have enough confidence in myself to shoot that motherf–ka.”

Here are some of the most electrifying moments from Bam’s historic night—deep threes, crashing the offensive glass, and dominating inside:

The Heat Need This Version of “Captain” to Soar

The Miami Heat are at a critical point where they need consistency from their cornerstone players if they want to secure a top-6 seed in the East or dream of a deep playoff run. In a long NBA season filled with ups and downs, the team can’t afford more offensive lulls from Adebayo. But when he flips the switch like he has in these last three games, the Heat become a truly dangerous team—with spacing from a big man’s three-point shooting, elite defense, and all-around playmaking.

Bam Adebayo isn’t just returning—he’s evolving. And if he maintains this level, he could turn the Heat from “on the bubble” to legitimate dark horse in the Eastern Conference. Heat Nation, this is the Bam we’ve been waiting for—and tonight, he made history!

Up next, the Heat continue their packed schedule. Stay tuned to see if “Captain” keeps this fire burning.
