Chelsea take a massive financial hit, offloading Nkunku to AC Milan for a bargain-basement fee

In a stunning turn of events, Chelsea FC are on the verge of finalizing a deal that will see France international attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku depart Stamford Bridge for AC Milan at a significantly reduced price. According to L’Equipe, the two clubs are set to agree on a transfer package worth between €40m and €45m, a far cry from the €60m Chelsea paid to secure Nkunku’s services from RB Leipzig just two years ago.

The 27-year-old, once heralded as one of Europe’s brightest attacking talents, has struggled to rediscover the scintillating form that made him a standout at Leipzig. Despite flashes of brilliance, injuries and inconsistent playing time have hampered his stint in West London, prompting both player and club to seek a fresh start. With four years still remaining on his Chelsea contract, the Blues were eager to recoup some of their investment, but the agreed fee represents a substantial financial hit.

AC Milan, however, are poised to capitalize on Chelsea’s willingness to cut their losses. The Rossoneri have reportedly secured personal terms with Nkunku, fending off interest from Premier League rivals Aston Villa, as well as German heavyweights RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Milan’s swift move has positioned them as the frontrunners in the race for the versatile midfielder’s signature, with a deal expected to be finalized as early as Thursday.

Nkunku’s departure marks another chapter in Chelsea’s ongoing squad overhaul, but questions linger about the club’s transfer strategy. For Milan, landing a player of Nkunku’s caliber at such a bargain price could prove to be a masterstroke, offering the Serie A side a dynamic attacking option as they aim to compete at the highest level. As the transfer window nears its climax, all eyes will be on Nkunku to see if he can reignite his career in the iconic red and black of AC Milan.
