DECODING THE BOMBSHELL: Steve Kerr addresses potential season shutdown of Stephen Curry with a 6-word message

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr delivered a blunt, six-word message Thursday that instantly quieted any talk of writing off Stephen Curry for the rest of the season.

“No, that hasn’t been a conversation,” Kerr said simply when asked if the organization was considering shutting Curry down.

The remark came amid growing speculation about the superstar’s long-term status after an extended absence caused by runner’s knee. Instead of signaling surrender, Kerr painted a picture of steady progress and stubborn optimism.

“The biggest thing is, is he trending in the right direction? The answer is yes,” the coach told reporters. “Talking to Rick Celebrini today, he was encouraged with today’s work, and we just have to continue the build-up at a measured pace, because we don’t want any setbacks.”

Curry has not yet returned to full team practices and remains limited to individual on-court sessions. As announced last Wednesday, he will miss at least 10 more days while the medical staff carefully increases his workload. The future Hall of Famer has not played since late January.

Without him, the Warriors have stumbled badly, dropping 10 of their last 15 games. They currently sit ninth in the Western Conference with a 32-33 record, clinging to the final Play-In spot.

Yet Kerr made it crystal clear that the team is not hitting the panic button or planning for next year. Curry’s gradual return remains the priority, and the organization is treating his recovery as an active, ongoing process rather than a lost cause.

In six short words, Steve Kerr shut down the shutdown talk — and sent a loud signal that the Warriors still believe their season is far from over.
