Denver Drop A Bombshell: Nuggets Reveal Peyton Watson Injury Status for Game 4 vs Timberwolves

The Denver Nuggets are heading into a critical Game 4 of their first-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves still shorthanded on the wing, with young standout Peyton Watson remaining sidelined as he continues to recover from a hamstring strain.

Watson has not seen the court since April 1, when he logged just nine minutes in a regular-season game against the Utah Jazz before being ruled out. He missed the final five games of the regular season and has now been absent for the entire opening-round series against Minnesota. Saturday’s matchup will mark his ninth consecutive game missed.

The 23-year-old had shown some encouraging signs of progress in the lead-up to Game 1, participating in on-court work, but the Nuggets ultimately ruled him out for the series opener. That decision has held firm through the first three games, leaving Denver without one of its most versatile defensive pieces and a developing offensive threat.

Compounding the concern for the Nuggets is the status of starting forward Aaron Gordon. Gordon was downgraded on the injury report ahead of Game 3 with left calf tightness. Listed as probable initially, he was ultimately ruled out and did not play in Thursday’s contest.

“We were waiting to see how he was going to react to it,” Nuggets coach David Adelman said earlier this week. “Today, there wasn’t much improvement—so he’s out. I can’t tell the future and what tomorrow’s going to bring. I have no idea. It just seems like it has happened so many times. I think the guys know this is Game 3 of the playoffs—you just get ready to play.”

Heading into Saturday night’s Game 4, Gordon has been listed as questionable. The Nuggets, who are looking to avoid falling into a 1-3 deficit before the series shifts back to Denver, will need clarity on both wing players as they prepare for an 8:30 PM ET tip-off at Target Center.

The absences come at a challenging time for Denver. Watson’s length, athleticism, and improving shooting had made him a key rotation player this season, while Gordon’s physicality, rebounding, and two-way reliability have long anchored the Nuggets’ forward group. Their combined unavailability has forced adjustments on both ends of the floor, particularly in containing Minnesota’s athletic perimeter players and matching the Timberwolves’ physical style.

With the series tied or leaning in Minnesota’s favor depending on the outcome of Game 3, the Nuggets’ ability to get healthy—or at least closer to full strength—could prove decisive. Watson’s return remains uncertain in the short term, as the team continues to manage his recovery conservatively following the recurrence of the hamstring issue. Gordon’s calf tightness adds another layer of uncertainty, with Adelman and the medical staff monitoring his response to treatment on the off day.

As the Nuggets stare down a must-win scenario on the road, the focus shifts not only to execution on the court but also to how the team navigates these latest injury blows. Depth and adaptability have been tested all season for Denver; now, in the heightened stakes of the playoffs, those qualities will be pushed to the limit once again.
