The Golden State Warriors are coming off a commendable season, reaching the second round of the playoffs before an unfortunate injury to Stephen Curry cut their run short. A pivotal move at the trade deadline saw them acquire Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat, forming a formidable veteran trio alongside Curry and Draymond Green. With this core in place, the Warriors are now focused on upgrading their roster this offseason to pursue another NBA championship.
One glaring weakness for Golden State in recent seasons has been the center position, which has consistently lacked stability and impact. To address this, Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey recently proposed a mock trade that would see the Warriors send young wing Moses Moody and sharpshooter Buddy Hield to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for veteran center Nikola Vucevic, the 45th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and a 2028 second-round pick.
“For the Golden State Warriors, this is a bit of a desperation move, since Vucevic is 34 and on an expiring contract,” Bailey noted. “But they were woefully thin at the 5 in 2024-25. And even at this age, Vuc is a starting center who can pass, space the floor, and fit into Golden State’s read-and-react system.”
While Bailey acknowledges the trade as a bold move, Vucevic’s skill set makes him an intriguing fit for the Warriors. His ability to stretch the floor with his shooting and provide elite rebounding would complement the playstyles of Curry, Butler, and Green. The Warriors have been linked to Vucevic in previous seasons, and his addition could solidify their frontcourt, addressing a critical need.
However, parting with Moody, a promising young talent, and Hield, a reliable sharpshooter, would not be an easy decision for Golden State. Despite the cost, acquiring a starting-caliber center like Vucevic could elevate the Warriors’ roster and enhance their championship aspirations for the upcoming season.
