The Golden State Warriors didn’t get the Giannis Antetokounmpo update they were hoping for over the weekend. In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, the 31-year-old Milwaukee Bucks superstar made it clear: “As of today, I’m committed to the Milwaukee Bucks.” He emphasized his loyalty to his teammates, Coach Doc Rivers, and GM Jon Horst, reiterating that fans would never hear him publicly demand a trade from the 2021 champions.

But on Monday, salary cap expert Yossi Gozlan from Third Apron dropped exciting news that should reignite confidence among Warriors fans heading into the offseason pursuit of the two-time MVP.
Gozlan wrote: “It’ll be interesting to see how they handle (Kristaps) Porzingis and (Draymond) Green’s contract negotiations. Both can be extended to new deals now that could keep them trade-eligible for the offseason. For example, they could structure their first-year salaries so both can be aggregated for a max player like Antetokounmpo ($58.5 million).”
In plain terms: While the Warriors no longer have Jonathan Kuminga or Buddy Hield to dangle in trades after acquiring Porzingis from Atlanta at the deadline, they still hold powerful assets. By smartly extending Porzingis (currently on a $30.7M expiring deal) and Green, Golden State can create enough outgoing salary to match Giannis’ max figure through aggregation.
Would the Dubs love to part with franchise legend Draymond Green and a rim-protecting, floor-spacing big like Porzingis? Not thrilled, but if Antetokounmpo becomes available and remains a top priority, it’s a sacrifice worth considering for a chance at another dynasty alongside Stephen Curry.
Of course, none of this happens unless Giannis signals unhappiness in Milwaukee. For now, he’s publicly locked in with the Bucks. Still, the Warriors’ offseason window remains wide open—especially with their flexible cap maneuvers and remaining draft capital.
This is classic Warriors chess: strengthen the roster now with Porzingis while keeping the door cracked for a blockbuster. Summer 2026 could bring fireworks in the Bay Area—whether it’s building around Curry or landing the Greek Freak to form an unstoppable duo.
Stay tuned, Dubs Nation—the story is far from over!
