IT’S OFFICIAL! NBA pauses game in Detroit to honor Kevin Durant for surpassing A LEGEND on the all-time three-pointers list

On the second night of a back-to-back, Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets arrived in Detroit looking to wash away the taste of a narrow loss to Philadelphia. But even in the midst of a team recovery mission, Durant found a moment to etch his name a little deeper into the NBA record books.

During the first half against the Pistons, Durant drilled two three-pointers, moving him past former NBA champion Jason Terry (2,281) for 11th place on the NBA’s all-time three-pointers made list. The league officially recognized the milestone on social media, congratulating the Rockets’ superstar on his latest climb up the historic ladder.

Next on the List: The sharpshooting legend now sets his sights on Hall of Famer Vince Carter, who sits in 10th place with 2,290 career triples. At his current pace of 2.3 made threes per game this season, Durant could surpass Carter within the next handful of games.

A Season of Sustained Excellence

The milestone is just another note in what has been a remarkably efficient first season in Houston for the former MVP. Entering Friday’s contest, Durant was averaging:

  • 26.1 points on 51.4% shooting

  • 5.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.0 blocks

  • 2.3 threes per game at a blistering 40.4% clip

His seamless integration and high-level production have been a cornerstone for the Rockets’ success, helping propel them to a 26-16 record and fourth place in the brutal Western Conference prior to tip-off against Detroit.

Game Update: A Tight Battle at The Half

The Rockets found themselves in a fight at Little Caesars Arena. After a high-scoring first half, the game was knotted at 52-52 heading into the break.

Durant was the engine for Houston early, putting up 18 first-half points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3 three-pointers, along with a rebound and 3 assists in just 18 minutes of action. His scoring burst kept the Rockets afloat in a back-and-forth half.

Looking Ahead

With the milestone secured, Durant’s focus—and that of the Rockets—will be squarely on securing a victory in the second half to avoid a two-game skid. As the second half unfolds, all eyes will be on whether Durant’s hot hand can guide Houston to a needed road win while he continues his quiet, steady ascent up one of the league’s most prestigious all-time lists.
