Los Angeles Drop a Bombshell: Lakers Make Austin Reaves Announcement Before Magic Game

The Los Angeles Lakers will travel to Florida on Saturday evening to face the Orlando Magic, riding high after a 134-126 road victory over the Miami Heat earlier in the week. While the team continues its impressive surge, a key announcement has introduced an element of uncertainty into their lineup plans.

Austin Reaves played a pivotal role in the win over the Heat, finishing with 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists. He logged 40 minutes, shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 2-of-7 from three-point range. His steady contribution helped the Lakers maintain momentum on the road, but his availability for the upcoming matchup is now in question.

On Saturday, the Lakers officially listed Reaves as questionable due to a hip issue. Law Murray of The Athletic reported: “Austin Reaves (hip) is questionable for Saturday at Orlando; Maxi Kleber (back) remains out.” For the Magic, several key players remain sidelined: Anthony Black (abdominal), Jonathan Isaac (knee), and Franz Wagner (ankle) are all out. Wendell Carter Jr. (rib) — who caused problems for the Lakers in their previous meeting — is questionable.

Despite the injury cloud, Reaves is enjoying one of the finest seasons of his career. Through 44 games, the undrafted Oklahoma product is averaging 23.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 49.4% from the field and 36.6% from beyond the arc. As Real App noted on March 8, “Austin Reaves is currently having the most efficient 20-PPG season in Lakers history.” His ability to impact the game on both ends has been central to Los Angeles’ success.

The Lakers currently sit as the third seed in the Western Conference with a strong 45-25 record after 70 games. They are in the midst of an eight-game winning streak and have won nine of their last ten contests. On the road, they hold a solid 22-13 mark in 35 games. After Orlando, the team will continue its Eastern Conference swing with a Monday night visit to the Detroit Pistons in Michigan.

The Magic, meanwhile, enter the matchup as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference at 38-31 after 69 games. They are currently on a three-game losing streak but have still managed to win seven of their last ten contests. The absence of multiple rotation players will test Orlando’s depth, particularly against a Lakers squad that has found its rhythm at both ends of the floor.

As the Lakers push to solidify their playoff positioning, the status of Austin Reaves will be the focal point heading into Saturday’s tip-off. A healthy Reaves has been a catalyst for their recent surge; his potential absence could force adjustments in a game the team would otherwise view as a prime opportunity to extend their winning ways. The announcement may have caught some off guard, but it underscores the physical toll of a long NBA season — even for one of the league’s most reliable guards.
