Luann de Lesseps Doesn’t Hold Back – The Real Reason RHONY Flopped & Her Jaw-Dropping Ultimatum to Bravo!

Luann de Lesseps, the iconic star of The Real Housewives of New York City (RHONY), is breaking her silence on the backlash that has plagued the show since its controversial full-cast overhaul in 2023. At 60, the Countess is as candid as ever, dishing on what went wrong, how Bravo can fix it, and whether she’d consider a dramatic return to the franchise that made her a household name.

In an exclusive interview with Parade on June 30, Luann didn’t mince words when pinpointing the root of RHONY’s rocky reception. “The first problem was that they had an all-new cast and didn’t keep the OGs,” she declared, referring to Bravo’s bold decision to reboot the series for its 14th season with an entirely fresh lineup. The move sidelined beloved original cast members like herself, Ramona Singer, 68, and Sonja Morgan, 61, in favor of newcomers Jenna Lyons, 57, Sai De Silva, 44, Ubah Hassan, 41, Erin Lichy, 38, Jessel Taank, 45, and Brynn Whitfield, 39. “I think that was a big mistake, and I’m sure Bravo realizes it wasn’t the best call,” Luann added with her signature flair. “But it happened, so now we’ll see what they do next. As I always say, watch what happens!”

Luann’s solution? A bold fusion of old and new. “They should combine the cast,” she proposed, envisioning a dream team that blends the fresh faces of season 15 with the iconic OGs who defined RHONY’s golden era. While Brynn Whitfield has confirmed she won’t return for season 16, Luann believes pairing some of the newer stars with veterans could reignite the spark fans have been missing. Reflecting on the original cast, she waxed nostalgic, comparing their chemistry to Sex and the City. “Those days were epic,” she said. “Thank God they’re captured on film, because you can’t recreate that magic.”

But would Luann herself return to the Upper East Side’s drama-filled landscape? Her answer is tantalizingly open-ended. “I never say never—I say maybe,” she teased, revealing that Bravo has discussed bringing back the legacy cast. However, the logistics are tricky. “Ramona’s moved to Florida, Sonja finally sold her townhouse and moved to Florida, and Jill Zarin’s down there too,” Luann explained. “Kelly Bensimon, Dorinda Medley, and I are still in New York, so we’ll see what Bravo cooks up.” Her coy response leaves fans hopeful for a comeback, but it’s clear she’s keeping her options open, delivering an ultimatum of sorts: Bravo needs to get it right.

Beyond RHONY, Luann is thriving in new ventures, including a surprising guest role on Acorn TV’s long-running Murdoch Mysteries. “I was thrilled to join a series with such a loyal fanbase and incredible cast,” she shared. Describing the experience as “Martha Stewart meets Snoop Dogg,” Luann believes the unexpected pairing of her larger-than-life persona with the show’s period drama will delight both her fans and Murdoch devotees. “The cast was so welcoming, and everyone was excited I was there. I think fans are going to love this crossover,” she said with a laugh.

As Luann looks to the future, her message to Bravo is clear: honor the legacy of RHONY’s OGs while embracing the new. Whether she returns to the franchise or continues to conquer new projects, one thing is certain—Luann de Lesseps remains a force to be reckoned with, and fans will be watching to see what happens next.
