MIAMI GETS A BOMSHELL: Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo fuels Heat buzz with latest remarks

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat are two things that continue to be a potential scenario for the two parties. The Milwaukee Bucks teased the possibility once again.

Former Heat player Goran Dragic had Antetokounmpo on the latest episode of the Gogi’s Garage podcast. Dragic teased Antetokounmpo about his knee issues and that he needs a nice warm climate to recover, and Antetokounmpo played along calling Miami a ‘beautiful city.’

“You’re 31 years old, so you need to think about your knees. You know, to be loose. So you need a warm climate man,” Dragic said .

“Hey, Miami is not a bad place. Beautiful, beautiful city. Beautiful city,” Antetokounmpo responded .

This exchange, while lighthearted, carries significant weight given the context. Antetokounmpo has been with the Bucks franchise for 13 years and counting. However, following many first-round exits and missing the playoffs this year for the first time since 2016, his time might be coming to an end .

What’s Next for Giannis Antetokounmpo Amid Heat Rumors

Antetokounmpo went through an injury-riddled campaign throughout the 2025-26 season. He appeared in 36 games as he averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. He had shooting splits of 62.4% from the field, including 33.3% from beyond the arc, and 65% from the free-throw line .

When healthy, he remains one of the most dominant forces in the league. His true shooting percentage of 67.9% in games where he met certain statistical thresholds ranks among the best in the NBA .

There are teams that will be in intense pursuit of Antetokounmpo’s services. Those could be the Heat, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors. All three teams would have the packages ready in the offseason to give Milwaukee the best offer available .

Miami’s Situation: A Franchise Ready to Reload

The Heat are in an intriguing situation going into the summer. They finished with a 43-39 record throughout the 2025-26 campaign, exiting from the play-in tournament after losing to the 9-seed Charlotte Hornets .

Miami hasn’t had the same form since reaching the NBA Finals in 2023. They suffered back-to-back first-round exits in 2024 and 2025 but failed to make the playoffs this time around.

Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro have stood out as the star players but will be in need of significant retooling across the roster. This presents the possibility of Antetokounmpo coming to South Beach.

The Heat’s Financial Flexibility

Miami is widely expected to be significant players this offseason. They’re projected to be $43.3 million below the first luxury-tax apron and $56.3 million below the more restrictive second apron. If Miami decides to chase a star in free agency or on the trade market, it will have that flexibility .

The Heat have the contracts to make a deal work. Andrew Wiggins holds a $30.2 million player option that he is widely expected to exercise. Tyler Herro is entering the final year of his contract at $33 million, making him a natural centerpiece of any blockbuster trade. Young assets like Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, and Kasparas Jakucionis could also be included to sweeten the pot .

What a Heat Trade Package Could Look Like

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey proposed a framework that would send Antetokounmpo to Miami:

Miami Heat Get: Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks Get: Andrew Wiggins, Nikola Jović, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, a 2030 first-round pick and a top-three protected 2032 first-round pick .

Wiggins would be on an expiring contract that Milwaukee could move for another asset. Jović, Jaquez Jr. and Jakučionis would instantly add intrigue to a young core. And the picks in 2030 and 2032 would convey long after Antetokounmpo’s prime.

The fit on the court raises some questions. A frontcourt of Antetokounmpo and Adebayo would be defensively terrifying — two of the best defenders in the league anchoring the paint. But offensively, spacing could be an issue. Both players are most effective inside the arc.

That said, Erik Spoelstra is one of the best coaches in the league. When he had MVP candidates, he won titles. When he had a second-tier star, he made two unexpected trips to the NBA Finals. Giannis would give him a chance to cook up something special again .

The Bucks’ Dilemma: Extend or Trade

Antetokounmpo is under contract with the Bucks through the 2026-27 season after signing a three-year, $186 million extension in 2023. He’s not formally issued a public trade request, but it’s clear the two sides could be heading toward a split .

The Bucks have one last chance to avoid a trade. Starting Oct. 1, Antetokounmpo is eligible to sign a four-year, $275 million contract extension. If he exercises his $62.8 million option for 2026-27, it would become a three-year, $213.6 million deal .

But to sign a fourth extension with Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo has to be sold on the franchise’s plans to bolster a roster that missed its first playoffs since 2016. If an extension doesn’t come easily, then a trade has to be what comes next .

Other Suitors: Knicks and Warriors

The Knicks have long been connected to Antetokounmpo. They could offer Karl-Anthony Towns, pick swaps, and second-round picks. However, New York has spent significant trade capital in recent years, making a deal more complicated .

The Warriors are also in the mix. With Stephen Curry’s window closing, Golden State could package young players and picks to pair Giannis with one of the greatest shooters of all time. But Antetokounmpo’s recent comments about Los Angeles being “superficial” may indicate a lack of interest in the West Coast market .

The Verdict: Miami Remains the Favorite

Antetokounmpo has not publicly demanded a trade. He has spoken about loyalty and the difficulty of turning his back on people who believed in him .

But he also wants to win. And the Bucks, after a season in which they missed the playoffs entirely, may not be able to offer him that opportunity.

The Heat have the assets, the cap flexibility, the warm climate, and the winning culture. They have a need for a superstar. And they have a coach who knows how to maximize talent.

Miami is not a bad place, man. Beautiful city.

And it might soon be Giannis Antetokounmpo’s new home.
