ROCKETS DROP A BOMBSHELL! Kevin Durant Reveals The Real Reason He Refuses To Be Rested Despite Heavy Minutes -THE NUMBER TO GET HIM ON THE FIELD IS SIMPLY HUGE!

At 37, Kevin Durant is rewriting the book on veteran workload in the NBA. Back-to-back games saw him log 44 minutes in an OT loss to the Philadelphia 76ers and 41 minutes in a gritty 111-104 win over the Detroit Pistons on Friday (Jan. 23, 2026). Postgame, KD addressed fan worries head-on with zero hesitation:

“That’s what I get paid to do, man. I get paid $50-some million to be available and play, and be there for my team whenever they need me to be there. So, it’s on me to prepare the right way so I can be ready for 40-plus minutes. I’m preparing for 48 minutes a night. So if I fall under that, I mean, I’m cool.

But I get that people are concerned because of my age and I’ve had some injuries in the past, but I feel solid. And coaching staff’s been doing a good job of my rotations. And then when I’m in a game too, you got players that can handle the ball, that can guard too. I’m not out there doing everything.

So, I feel good when I’m playing, and I want to play more. I don’t want to miss games. I want to play more minutes. I just want to help the team as much as I can. And me being out there helps the team.”

This no-excuses mindset stands out in today’s load-management era. Durant leads the Rockets with 36.9 MPG this season (3rd in the NBA), trailing only Tyrese Maxey (39.5) and teammate Amen Thompson (37.3). In January alone, he’s averaging 38.8 MPG – elite volume for a player with his injury history.

Against the Pistons, KD delivered 32 points (11-19 FG), 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block – a dominant bounce-back after disappointment vs. Philly. He even had a heated courtside exchange with a fan, showing his fire and focus. The win pushed Houston to 27-16, holding 4th in the West.

Durant’s presence – scoring, spacing, defense, and leadership – has elevated the young core (Thompson, Şengün, Green) under Ime Udoka. At $54.7 million this year, KD views heavy minutes as part of the job, and he’s thriving on it.

Rockets fans, rest easy: KD feels “solid,” trusts the rotations, and wants even more court time. Next up: Memphis Grizzlies at Toyota Center (Monday, 8 PM ET). The Slim Reaper is locked in – and Houston’s contention hopes are soaring with him.

KD proving age is just a number – who’s worried now?
