Malin’s path to this decision has been anything but easy. In 2019, she endured the heartbreaking loss of her first child, Consy, who passed away at just four weeks old after being born seven weeks premature. The grief was compounded by the loss of her mother to stomach cancer in 2017 and the absence of family ties, leaving Malin to navigate life’s challenges largely on her own. In 2022, she welcomed her daughter, Xaya, but faced further hardship when her partner Jared ended their relationship just four weeks after Xaya’s birth. Malin has also been open about surviving an abusive relationship with her ex-partner Tom Kemp, who was jailed in 2020 for assaulting her.

These experiences, coupled with her struggles with prenatal and postnatal depression, have shaped Malin into a beacon of resilience. “I have the experience of losing a baby, having a baby, prenatal and postnatal depression, and raising a child without parents,” she shared on Instagram. “I want to put that to good use.” Her decision to train as a midwife reflects her desire to transform personal pain into purpose, guiding other women through the transformative journey of childbirth.

Malin’s announcement about her midwifery training is more than a career pivot—it’s a spiritual mission. “After everything I’ve experienced in life and motherhood, I feel called to walk alongside women at one of the most sacred thresholds of life,” she wrote. This new path isn’t about abandoning her platform but grounding it in something “deeply real.” Known for her candid discussions about mental health since her 2016 Love Island appearance, Malin plans to continue sharing her journey while pursuing her studies. She’s also open to collaborating with brands aligned with family, wellness, motherhood, and education to support herself and Xaya during this transition.

Her vision extends beyond personal growth. Malin hinted at using her platform to advocate for change, referencing her past collaboration with No. 10 and the Home Office to address workplace bullying and toxicity. “A spiritual midwife, eh,” she mused, suggesting her unique blend of empathy and advocacy could make a lasting impact.

Malin’s move to Barcelona is as much about reinvention as it is about healing. In a candid video titled “Update of the Truth,” she shared her decision to leave Bedfordshire, where she had lived since moving from Sweden at age three. “There’s nothing here for me,” she confessed. “I came with a family, and I’m leaving without anyone. I don’t speak to my siblings, my parents are dead, I have no family. It’s just me and Xaya.”

Feeling like her “soul had been taken out” and describing herself as “functioning like a zombie,” Malin decided to break free from the familiarity of her past. She sold her house, car, and possessions, choosing instead to embrace “adventure, travel, fun, and joy.” Before settling in Barcelona, Malin and Xaya spent time in Madeira, visiting a close friend and preparing for their next chapter. “My nervous system has only known stress, suffering, and trauma,” she explained. “Now, I need change.”

Malin’s story is one of resilience and reinvention. Beyond her losses, she has been open about her struggles with identity and safety, particularly around men. In a March post titled “Balancing Masculine & Feminine,” she revealed how the absence of a father figure and past relationships with “ego-driven” men left her questioning her sexuality and struggling to embrace her femininity. “I’ve never felt safe around men,” she admitted, describing how her strength as a single mother and her survival instincts shaped her life.

Now, as she steps into her new role as a midwife-in-training and builds a life in Barcelona, Malin is reclaiming her power. Her journey is a testament to the strength found in vulnerability and the courage to start anew. “This is a big transition, and I know I won’t walk it alone,” she wrote, inviting collaboration and connection as she embarks on this bold new path.

As Malin begins her midwifery studies, she’s embracing the unknown with open-hearted determination. Her move to Barcelona symbolizes a fresh start, not just for herself but for her daughter, Xaya. With her platform, resilience, and newfound purpose, Malin is poised to make a meaningful impact—whether by supporting women through childbirth or advocating for systemic change. Her story is a powerful reminder that even in the face of unimaginable loss, there’s always room for growth, healing, and a new calling.
