SHOCKER IN LONDON: Enzo Maresca breaks three-month silence after Chelsea exit and drops return hint

In a surprising development, former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has ended his three-month social media silence with an Instagram post that hints at a potential return to management.

Enzo Maresca

Maresca parted ways with Chelsea on New Year’s Day and was succeeded by Liam Rosenior. Shortly after his departure, he shared a farewell message on his official Instagram account but had remained completely silent online ever since.

Exactly three months after that goodbye post, the Italian coach broke his silence while on a family holiday in the Maldives with his wife and four children. He shared a series of photos and captioned them: “Enjoying the half term… Time to recharge!”

The post received likes from several Chelsea players, including Robert Sanchez, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill.

One of the six images stands out: it shows a desk laid out with stationery and several football tactics books. Many interpret this as a subtle hint that Maresca is staying sharp and preparing for his next managerial opportunity.

Maresca has been strongly linked with a high-profile return to Manchester City, where he previously served as manager of the development squad and as Pep Guardiola’s assistant (2020–2021 and 2022–2023). He continues to be mentioned as a leading candidate to replace Guardiola should the legendary Spaniard decide to leave the Etihad Stadium.

The timing of the post is notable, coming just weeks after Maresca made a rare public appearance. He was spotted in the directors’ box at Leicester City’s Championship match against Norwich City at the King Power Stadium, alongside his former assistants Willy Caballero and Danny Walker. The trio had previously guided Leicester to promotion from the Championship in the 2023/24 season before moving to Chelsea.

There were earlier reports suggesting Leicester may have approached Maresca about their managerial vacancy before appointing Gary Rowett on an interim basis to help the club avoid relegation.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Maresca managed 92 matches, recording 55 wins, 16 draws, and 21 defeats. He delivered silverware by winning the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup, though his tenure was marked by a strained relationship with the club’s hierarchy. His exit has since been openly questioned by players such as Enzo Fernández and Marc Cucurella.

With his social media return and the tactical books visible in his holiday snaps, the football world is now wondering whether Enzo Maresca’s recharge period signals he is ready for his next challenge—potentially even a sensational homecoming to Manchester City.
