As decision day inches closer, one “Married at First Sight” couple has a heart to heart about the future of their relationship in the latest episode of the Peacock series, and TODAY.com has a first look.
In the Season 19 premiere, viewers saw Josh, a 31-year-old contractor, marry Jalyn, a 27-year-old realtor. It didn’t take long for the newlyweds to connect on a physical and emotional level, and they quickly strengthened their bond.
As the experiment continued, Jalyn and Josh began to experience a few hiccups, including differing opinions on whether they should still follow their exes on social media. Above all, Josh’s love for music festivals, particularly Burning Man, was a sticking point for the couple.
When Josh learned that Jalyn didn’t share his passion for music festivals and wasn’t thrilled by the idea of going to Burning Man, he worried that he wouldn’t be able to experience the sense of community he has always found at the festival.
In TODAY’s first look clip of the latest episode, which premieres on Nov. 13, Josh and Jalyn go out to dinner and discuss the state of their relationship.
“Jalyn and I have had some really important conversations recently. We’re definitely still learning how our lives would mesh together, but I want to build this life I always dreamed of having with Jalyn. And so with decision day coming up, I’m hoping she feels the same way,” Josh says in a confessional interview.
At dinner, Jalyn starts the conversation and explains how she’s concerned that Josh won’t be happy if she doesn’t go to Burning Man.
“When I bring up conversations about, ‘OK, how can we get everything you love from Burning Man into everyday life?’ It’s not because I’m trying to be like, ‘How can we move it all over here so you can stop going over there?’ It’s not that way,” she says. “I really care about you and I want you to be really happy.”
Jalyn goes on to say she’s concerned that Josh could easily date someone who shared his passions and would fulfill that part of him more than she can.
“I think that that’s where I get tripped up because it’s like, I don’t want to feel like I’m just changing your life and making you feel like you have to give up things you (want) to do and you can go find that with somebody else. That’s where I stress out,” she says, calling it her “worry” about their relationship.
Josh reassures his wife and says that he can see where she’s coming from.
“At the end of the day, music is a really big part of what I enjoy but it’s not who I am. If I really think about it, there’s a lot of things about me that make me who I am way outside of that,” he says.
Jalyn then suggests that her husband could still attend the Burning Man festival this year then they could take a couple’s trip and go on a retreat or something similar.
“I’ll be completely honest with you, babe. I’ve literally already thought of myself at Burning Man without you and I already feel like it’s not gonna be the same,” he said, adding that he doesn’t see himself going without her.
In a confessional interview, Jalyn then explains her position further.
“I think Josh is really good at making me feel reassured but these are things that could potentially be easier said than done. You know, I could see myself spending forever with him. I think my biggest fear is he’s just telling me what I want to hear so I just say yes by the end of this,” she says.
Back at dinner, Jalyn applauds her husband and says she wants him to be happy.
“No matter what happens on decision day, I want you to know I think that you’re such an incredible person and I think you’re deserving of everything you want,” she says.
At the end of the eight-week experiment, Jalyn and Josh will need to decide if they want to stay married or go their separate ways. They are one of five couples who got married at first sight this season, including Jalyn’s mother, Belynda, a 47-year-old esthetic consultant who tied the knot with Chad, a 54-year-old real estate executive .
