THE 25-POINT PHENOM: Celtics’ Roster Swap Strategy – Cut Luis Jr., Welcome Preseason Hero After Impressive 18-Point, 9-Rebound Performance

Following a nail-biting 110-108 victory over the Toronto Raptors, the Boston Celtics have successfully concluded their preseason schedule. The focus now shifts entirely to their first official game, with excitement for the new campaign reaching a fever pitch.

On the eve of the season’s start, the Celtics made one final move to solidify their roster. After waiving RJ Luis Jr., a Two-Way contract spot opened up. On Thursday, that spot was claimed, as ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Ron Harper Jr. has secured the position.

“The Boston Celtics are signing Ron Harper Jr. to a two-way NBA contract, agent Drew Gross of WME Basketball tells ESPN,” Charania reported. “Harper earns Celtics roster spot and enters a fourth NBA season after having strong preseason.”

Harper Jr. is a familiar name within the Celtics’ system. He appeared in four games for the Maine Celtics (their G League affiliate) last season, averaging 22.8 points per contest during his brief stint. His journey later included a Two-Way deal with the Detroit Pistons in January, before returning to Boston on a training camp deal in September.

It was during this audition that Harper Jr. truly shined. Despite averaging just 10.6 minutes per game, he demonstrated remarkable efficiency, posting 4.3 points per game and an impressive 42.9% shooting from behind the three-point line. His consistent performance and high-impact play in limited minutes proved to be the key factor in convincing the coaching staff to award him the coveted Two-Way contract.

With the signing of Harper Jr., the Boston Celtics have officially put the finishing touches on their roster for the new campaign. All attention now turns to their highly-anticipated season opener at home against the archrival Philadelphia 76ers, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 22. One thing is certain: the Celtics will be more than eager to hand their longtime foe a loss right out of the gate.
