The ‘Cruel’ Rule of Celebrity Traitors: A Star Was Denied a Basic Human Need – And It Ended With a Justice-Fueled Showdown That Shook the Game!

Participants on The Traitors are used to being left in the dark, but celebrity contestant Nick Mohammed has revealed that, on the most recent series of the show, producers took to depriving them of a ‘basic human right’, until one star kicked off.

According to the comedian, the celebs taking part were not allowed to know the time of day, presumably to help immerse them in the game. As well as having phones and laptops snatched before the show starts, Nick told fellow comic Stuart Goldsmith on The Comedian’s Comedian Podcast that “when they were in the castle…every single member of production” was forbidden from revealing what time it was, and if they were asked the crew could only respond by saying “it’s Traitors time.”

While Nick, who would go onto reach the final of the show, admitted to thinking the idea was “clever”, the other Celebrity Traitors contestants clearly didn’t agree.

“Someone kicked off and said ‘it’s a basic human right’… it doesn’t mean anything”, Nick joked.

While the Ted Lasso star didn’t reveal which celebrity had a fit about the temporal shutdown, Traitors fans took to the comments to speculate who it might have been.

“Using basic human rights as an argument sounds like it came from Stephen Fry”, posted one user on Instagram, while others pondered that David Olusuga or Celia Imre may have been the objectors.

“Feels like Alan or one of Joes would have made some sort of joke about it”, theorised another.

Other commenters also pointed out that the ban could not have been that well enforced, considering the amount of clocks dotted around the castle.

“Aren’t there clocks in there? There’s literally a shot of a grandfather clock every time they leave the castle after the round table”, one commenter wrote.

The ban on telling the time wasn’t the only behind the scenes secret Nick revealed on the podcast.

Despite rumours that contestants are completely cut-off from the wider world, Nick revealed that on the Celebrity edition you were at least allowed “one phone conversation a day”, which he used to speak to his kids.

After Alan Carr’s win on Celebrity Traitors, the BBC has confirmed the series’ future in a major update.

Just moments after the credits of the series finale aired, the BBC dropped a mysterious trailer about the show’s future. The teaser saw a faceless traitor walking through the forest with a lantern in their hand as they made their way to the turret.

It was then revealed that the next series of the public version of The Traitors is coming to BBC One and iPlayer in 2026.
