The Dark Side of Fame: Cashel Barnett Accused of Engaging in Sexual Acts with Ex-Girlfriend in Front of a Child

Cashel Barnett, a familiar face from Love Island USA, finds himself at the center of a shocking legal storm. The 31-year-old reality star has been hit with three additional felony charges in Utah, compounding an already troubling case that has cast a dark shadow over his public persona. On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Barnett was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, third-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree domestic violence in the presence of a child, according to reports from ABC 4, KJZZ14, and KSL. These new charges bring his total to five felony counts, intensifying scrutiny on the former television personality.

The latest allegations stem from an incident reportedly occurring between November and December 2024, involving the mother of Barnett’s child. This follows earlier charges filed in late May 2025, related to an alleged April assault. According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, as reported by KJZZ14, the woman claimed Barnett pinned her against a couch, restricting her ability to breathe until she lost consciousness. Upon regaining awareness, she alleged that Barnett slapped her across the face and sexually assaulted her, with their young child—distraught and crying—present in the room. The assault reportedly ceased only when she reached for the child.

The victim’s account paints a harrowing picture. In the police report, she detailed severe physical and psychological trauma, including difficulty breathing, a raspy voice, coughing, trouble swallowing, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, agitation, amnesia, memory loss, visual disturbances, and persistent headaches. These symptoms underscore the gravity of the alleged attack, which has sparked widespread concern.

Barnett’s attorney, Andrew K. Deesing, issued a statement to PEOPLE defending his client: “Mr. Barnett is presumed innocent, strongly denies any wrongdoing, and looks forward to his day in court. We’re in the very early stages of this, so we don’t have any further comment at this time.” Despite the legal presumption of innocence, the mounting charges—now including two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, and one count of aggravated sexual assault—have raised serious questions about Barnett’s conduct.

The May charges also included two misdemeanor assault counts, further complicating Barnett’s legal battles. As the case unfolds, the public and media are left grappling with the stark contrast between Barnett’s on-screen charm and the grave accusations now threatening his reputation. PEOPLE reached out to Peacock representatives for comment on June 25, 2025, but no additional details were provided at the time.

This unfolding saga serves as a grim reminder that fame often conceals darker truths. As Barnett prepares to face the judicial system, the world watches, awaiting answers in a case that intertwines celebrity, alleged violence, and the welfare of a child caught in the crossfire.
