THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE GOOD NEWS TODAY: Celtics Receive a Major Injury Update on Jayson Tatum Along with a New Return Timeline EARLIER THAN EXPECTED — MARCH MADNESS — THE DAY OF CELEBRATION FOR BOSTON FANS HAS ARRIVED

Despite missing Jayson Tatum for the entire season so far, the Boston Celtics remain one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. However, the return of their franchise star would be a massive boost—and the latest injury update shows Tatum is closer than ever to stepping back on the court.

Tatum “Full Go” in 5-on-5 Scrimmages – Final Step Before Return

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Jayson Tatum has participated fully in five-on-five team scrimmages—one of the last traditional hurdles before returning from injury.

Charania said on NBA Today (ESPN):

“Jayson Tatum has been a full go in five-on-five scrimmages with the Celtics. Right now it’s about him continuing to put in the time, continuing to get his conditioning up, and that comes through a number of practices and scrimmages.”

Tatum suffered a torn Achilles tendon in May during Boston’s conference semifinals series against the New York Knicks. While he previously avoided committing to a return this season, the latest developments strongly suggest he is nearing his 2025-26 debut.

Charania emphasized that while the leg may be physically cleared, the mental hurdle is just as critical:

“The big hurdle of all of this is getting 100% there on the mental side. Getting the confidence in his leg, fully, when he’s back. The common theme that I’ve gotten from people around Jayson Tatum is ‘He will be back on the floor when JT feels like JT.’”

Charania hinted at a potential March return window, but stressed the timeline remains in Tatum’s hands. After full medical clearance and discussions with team officials, he will make the final call on his comeback.

Jaylen Brown Cleared – Ready for Nuggets Showdown

In related injury news, Jaylen Brown—who has been leading Boston with an All-NBA caliber season (29.2 PPG, 7 RPG, 4.9 APG, all career highs)—was ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns due to a right knee contusion. He was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to out.

However, ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets (10 p.m. ET, ESPN), Brown has been removed from the injury report and is fully available.

Keith Smith reported:

“Jaylen Brown is off the injury report and available for tonight’s game at the Denver Nuggets, per the Boston Celtics. Jayson Tatum is the only player on the injury report and he remains out.”

The quick turnaround suggests the knee contusion was managed with rest on the first night of a back-to-back, and Brown is now cleared to face Nikola Jokić and the Nuggets.

Celtics on the Verge of Full Strength – Tatum’s Return Could Elevate Them to Favorites

Boston sits at 38-19, second in the East, even without Tatum all season. Their dominant 97-81 win over the shorthanded Suns—without Brown—showcased incredible depth. Brown’s immediate return and Tatum’s full participation in 5-on-5 drills signal the Celtics are on the brink of having their full superstar duo back.

The Wednesday night clash with Denver will be a major test—with Brown back and Tatum potentially weeks (or sooner) away, Boston looks more dangerous than ever. If Tatum returns feeling like “JT,” the Celtics could solidify themselves as the clear Eastern Conference favorites.

Celtics fans: the wait is almost over. When Jayson Tatum feels ready, the league better watch out—Green runs deeper than ever!
