THE WAIT IS OVER! The Definitive Christmas Sneaker Ranking Is Here, and Durant’s Pair Isn’t Even Top 5. Who Claimed the Throne?

Christmas Day is the NBA’s premier showcase, blending elite matchups with festive flair—special uniforms, family viewing, and, of course, the annual sneaker debuts that fans eagerly anticipate. This year’s slate delivered another memorable chapter, headlined by the Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers showdown featuring Kevin Durant against LeBron James—a rivalry that has produced classics throughout their careers.

While LeBron unveiled his LeBron 23 “Stocking Stuffer” in a striking crimson and dusty amethyst colorway, Durant made waves with the newly released Nike KD18 “Gifted” in a crisp white and volt base with bright crimson and glacier blue accents. Ranked eighth among the top sneakers worn on Christmas Day by Kicks on SI, Durant’s choice stood out for its timely release and thematic design.

As writer Pat Benson noted: “Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant did not call any last-minute audibles with his footwear. Instead, Durant wore the newly released Nike KD18 ‘Gifted’ colorway. Online shoppers can buy the shoes for $170 in adult sizes on nike.com.”

The KD18 “Gifted” officially dropped on Nike’s site the following day, December 26th. Nike’s official description captures the holiday spirit perfectly:

“KD’s scoring binges come in storms of all sorts—blizzards included. This special KD18 brings some of that wintry energy with an iced outsole and signature logo on the tongue that’s encased in a plastic bubble filled with glitter, just like a snow globe. And the flocked snow-flake upper print is just like KD’s buckets—no two are alike.”

The shoe incorporates Nike’s latest cushion foam for enhanced softness and comfort, paired with an open-holed mesh upper for breathability and lightness. A plastic cage on the sides adds firmness and support, ensuring stability during Durant’s explosive drives and pull-ups.

Durant, under a lifetime deal with Nike, continues to deliver some of the league’s most iconic basketball sneakers. While the KD4 remains his most popular retro release, Durant himself has often said he believes the KD6 is his personal favorite performer on the court.

On Christmas Day, the “Gifted” KD18 was more than just footwear—it symbolized Durant’s enduring excellence and the holiday magic that makes NBA Christmas so special. As the Rockets continue their push in the Western Conference, expect more standout performances—and more signature sneaker moments—from the future Hall of Famer.
