Warriors Stun with Surprise Signing: $85K Exhibit 10 Deal for Mysterious G League Prospect

In a move that has sent ripples through the NBA, the Golden State Warriors are reportedly set to sign free agent guard Taevion Kinsey, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. While the specifics of the contract remain under wraps, sources suggest it’s likely a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deal for training camp, a strategic gamble that could pay dividends for both the team and the player.

If this deal materializes as expected, Kinsey stands to earn a bonus of up to $85,300 if he’s waived before the regular season and commits to at least 60 days with the Warriors’ G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. The Exhibit 10 contract also opens the door for a potential conversion to a two-way deal, though the Warriors’ two available two-way slots may already have their names penciled in, as speculated in recent discussions.

Kinsey, a 25-year-old shooting guard, is no stranger to the grind. Undrafted in 2023 after a stellar college career at Marshall, he etched his name in history as the Thunder Herd’s all-time leading scorer and clinched the Sun Belt Player of the Year title as a “super senior” in the 2022/23 season. His journey to the NBA has been anything but conventional, marked by perseverance and standout performances in the G League.

Over the past two offseasons, Kinsey inked Exhibit 10 contracts with the Utah Jazz, only to be waived each fall and sent to their G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. His brief stints with the Jazz included a 10-day contract in March 2024 and a month-long two-way deal last summer, but the elusive NBA regular season debut remains just out of reach.

Kinsey’s G League resume, however, speaks volumes. In the 2024/25 season, he appeared in 50 games for the Stars, averaging 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while shooting an impressive .525/.327/.662 in 33.8 minutes. The prior season (2023/24) saw him post 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.8 steals per game on .555/.427/.780 shooting in 29.6 minutes across another 50 games. His efficiency, versatility, and relentless work ethic have made him a standout in the developmental league.

Adding to his rising profile, Kinsey was recently named to the G League United roster, set to compete in the prestigious FIBA Intercontinental Cup in September. This international stage could be the perfect platform for him to showcase his skills before potentially joining the Warriors’ training camp.

For the Warriors, this signing represents a low-risk, high-reward opportunity. Kinsey’s proven scoring ability, defensive tenacity, and playmaking instincts could make him a dark horse candidate to crack their roster or, at the very least, bolster their G League squad. As the team navigates a competitive Western Conference, unearthing a gem like Kinsey could prove to be a masterstroke in their quest for depth and flexibility.
